But nationally, he hadn’t made his name yet; college prospects, especially quarterbacks, generally are not evaluated thoroughly by scouts until after the junior season is complete. His profile spiked, however, when he visited San Antonio last month for the annual All-American junior combine. His showing there was impressive, as is the highlight tape he provided for the scouting ‘gurus.’ College coaches who have come through Blue Springs South on their yearly season-end recruiting sweeps have been thoroughly impressed – especially Oregon and Iowa, both of which have begun trying to put a recruiting press on him. “It’s funny – last year if we would have know Oregon was interested, we would’ve thought they were one of the big dogs,” his father, Jim Dalton told InsideMizzou.com. “But Missouri finished fourth this year. It doesn’t get much bigger than that.” “He’s not looking at other schools. Other schools are looking at him.” But there’s good news for MU fans: barring some sort of major, unexpected development such as a coaching change, he doesn’t see his son considering any other school. He’s a huge fan of quarterbacks coach Dave Yost, for instance. The others will, of course, continue to come after him, most likely in bigger numbers and with more persistent pitches as he gets into his senior campaign. Schools love Dalton because he’s a multi-talented quarterback who can run, throw and lead. In his sophomore and junior season combined, he rushed for 1,093 yards and nine touchdowns while completing 170 of 298 pass attempts for 2,914 yards, 41 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He’s lost one game in two years as a starter and threw two interceptions in 10 games this past season. But according to his father, there’s very little interest in evaluating any other offers that come his way. “Naturally, he’s received a lot of interest. But I think he’s solid,” Jim Dalton said. “I think he’s very solid.” In our previous interview with him before his son’s commitment, Jim Dalton may have best summed up why Blaine wanted to play for Mizzou. “If you’re from Missouri and you go to, say, a Florida State, you’re just whatever,” Jim Dalton said. “If you play for the state school and you’re successful, you’re basically a legend in that state forever.
