http://www.mgoblue.com/football/page.aspx?id=12116 though this is likely taboo for the buckeye fans...follow the link...yes you can delete the cookies after viewing...haaaa....and there is a video on the right frame with about three minutes from Mike Barwis. He is ALL energy...all the time! This may be time sensitive so if the link is gone, sorry...it was there as of Apr. 30. called 'football interview with Mike' and actually a few other vids below that also mention his program...and agreed, 2-3 losses is possible, maybe more, hopefully less...but I will sit and enjoy transition. - mike

Carr was kind of ill near the end of his career. he really wanted to leave after 06 but was talked into staying. he was barely coaching the team the same way in 07 from what i heard and the asu loss was a byproduct of the coaching not being on the same page.

um offensive linemen have really been bad since 2002...when andy moeller took over as OL coach. a beneficiary of the buddy system employed by lloyd, he was a lb coach by trade and was in NO WAY qualified to be OL coach. just look up his resume. since then the top OL picks stopped coming...only Jake Long managed to be good from 2002 on really, David Baas was good but that's about it.

no more hutchinsons, runyans, jansens, mo williams' etc.

the o-line should be in much better shape and have much better technique this year making up for the losses. depth is a concern though.

overall i think UM will lose 2-3 games. utah scares me the most besides OSU because we will need time to gel but let's be honest, um has more talent than everyone but OSU overall in the conference and always does. - io

The only reason I mentioned filtering is the site said it when I tried to post about three different times. It said my post was being added but it would be reviewed by admin...so my apology...just seemed odd as I could post in pieces. As to SC in the fall...sure I will be glad to add whatever I can. I DIDN'T want to rip any programs or really hype any for that matter as I really know what has ailed UM due to personal experiences...And as mentioned, I WANT to be optimistic and say UM will still push for the Big Ten title with hopes that kids believe in RR and work their asses off...which unfortunately they haven't done much of for the last number of LLLLLLLoyd ball years...and predictable??? HAAAAA that is a friggin understatement if I ever heard one....not even sure scripted offense is appropriate for the slop we played. As to Pitt...who'd have seriously "thunk" Appy state ( a DAMN good DII schooll) could come in the big house and kick some butt? NO WAY should that ever happen. BUT with scholarship limitations, more and more talent is filtering to other programs and doing what the NCAA wanted, creating some parity and a chance any given Saturday...

Kid out of Adrian MI from GA Tech is looking OK...but no Henne..>Then again when you WASTE a talent like Henne...who's to say we will see a dramatic drop off...and when it comes to UM linemen...they just reload...I KNOW it is a whole new program...but long about a November afternoon in 1969...the unthinkable happened...just saying...realism tells me three years is likely before the impact is seen...but young kids can be chippy. I'm just anxious to see what happens as the season wears on...and to look deeper into the culpability of LLLLLLLoyd... see the attatched article...and how softy lllllllloyd handled his sweethearts...

Mike: Again appreciate your thoughts. for one would love to revisit this issue in the fall as you will see some things on gamedays-both good and bad re S&C-which you could point out to us fans. Thanks again! - JEH45

Mike-

There is no filtering going on. Sorry if you had issues.

Your insight and contributions to this discussion are much appreciated. Barwis comes in with a ton of hype for a strength coach so he must be doing something right. What struck me the last few seasons was how Michigan's lines have been getting handled by OSU. Last season was absolutely ridiculous, as the UM O-Line had no shot.

UM will suck next year because they won't have a very good QB. They should still make a bowl game but I think the R-Rod staff will need 3 years to really get their system in place. And it's not just the QB position but the O-Line as well, which is very young and inexperienced. That said, Rodriguez will, according to recruiting rankings, have more talent on this years UM team than he's ever had before.

Regarding the PITT game, PITT is going to be descent the next couple of years and they are slowly getting more talented. It was a rivalry game. It's college football. Crazy shit happens. I look at consistency and WVU has been pretty damn good, beating UGA and Oklahoma in BCS games. I would worry though if I were a Wolverine fan about injuries. Look at both the Pitt and USF games, injuries were a factor, with Pat White left vulnerable to athletic DE's and quick linebackers.

Back to Michigan, the last 4 years have been soooo predictable. Run Mike Hart into the dirt. Henne gets dinged up. Manningham is puffin' out wide. It was time for a change. The UM program needed to be woke back up and a complete cleaning of the out house may be just what the doctor ordered. - Lloyds Apple

control of the lines. UM used to pride themselves on wearing teams down, driving the defense off the ball...Other than Jake Long...most guys were getting blown out. Jake is a human freak of nature...again, he will prove himself in the draft. For years UM prided themselves on efficent, intelligent, technically sound linemen who hit their blocks like the precision of a well tuned typewriter...well, they are still pretty solid technically but slow to react off the snap, and too weak to hold their blocks...OSU dominated off the line over the last few years.

HAVE to stress...It may not change over night...but change is necessary...and at this point inevitable. - mike

*sorry this is all spread out, I tried posting it as a whole about three times and it kept stuffing it for some reason...odd... anyways speed...uhh...yeah, watch any highlight reels of OSU games...and us being beaten up the middle, around the corner, down the sidelines, and being snagged from behind...is it that mike hart was slow? Chad Henne slow? how is it Henne wowed scouts at the combine? hmmmm..... - mike

flab: again, kids 18-24 should not have middle age spread. It is baffling that big horse linemen would have guts lapping over their beltline...just see the photo I posted above...at 245# I still posted 8% bodyfat by hydrostatic testing (the most accurate form of testing as your bodyweight is compared on land and in the water...as fat is 4x less dense than muscle it will cause a body to 'float' more than a lean mass body type.) I was deemed a "Communist" as I used free weights in my training...also ran a 4.5 in the 40 by electronic timing...but what do I know... ;) - mike

gassing: kids of 18-22 should not be sucking wind after three and four plays. Undoubtedly the defensive schemes called for shifts based on down and distance, but fatigue was very evident...many of these "flat bellied studs" were simply sucking wind and many were waving to the sideline calling for a replacement...WHAT??? - mike

repetitive injury: when teams have plaguing injuries, hamstrings, hips, etc...there is a flaw in flexibility, balance, and conditioning. The human body has a 6:1 ratio of muscle fiber between the quadriceps (front of the leg) and hamstrings (rear of the leg). If an athlete doesn't balance training, injury is at a much higher risk.
Likewise, nagging booboos and hip problems are a sign of poor conditioning...and yes, at this level kids will get hurt, but when a high percentage of your starters are "dinged up" it is more than just one kid getting his bell rung at some point.

These are just a few, and I tried to get a few from various conferences, from programs that are currently successful, have high power athletes...and ironically all use similar programs to Barwis...now understanding it is SIMILAR...as each coach at each program has their own tweak...the basic goals, results, and even methods are pretty similar. There are only so many ways to reinvent the wheel...

Things I see as conditioning issues:
repetitive stupid injuries
gassing
flab
speed
control of the lines

Mike: There are many college football fans who visit deathrattle. If you have the "ambition" i would love to see acouple of things: 1. A critique of the various S&C programs-who is getting it done & who isn't. 2. Again, I've told you I have no clue. Could you give me some pointers as to what to watch during a game that might tip me off as to that programs S&C. I mean I can tell bad conditioning if the guys gut is hanging out and he is sucking air, That is about it. Thanks! - JEH45

haaa.... ;) by all means, if I can answer anything else or simplify it I will be glad to...As I was being 'interviewed' in the presence of Genius (ala EDDIE...) I figured I had to put forth an effort...S/C is my day in and day out occupation...I can't get enough information. And have plenty of ambition to explain any of it to those wanting more. - mike
