 As further evidence we live in screwed up times, last Saturday Norman Griffith Jr. was shot to death as other teens tried to rob Griffith’s companion of his necklace.Griffith played football for Pahokee High School here in South Florida. He was a linebacker/tight end for Pahokee, holding offers from Buffalo & Iowa State while receiving interest from a host of other schools. Scout.com had Norman as a 2 star linebacker prospect for the 2009 class. Apparently Griffith was attending a dance at the Pahokee Boys & Girls club with a former teammate Oscar Blake, and others. It is being reported that some teens received a call re trouble at the dance between one of their friends and Blake. It is now reported that those teens did what anyone would do, they grabbed their guns and went to the dance looking for revenge on Blake. Blake and Griffith were in the Griffith family car and maybe as many as 3 shooters fired 6 shots into the car killing Griffith. Witness reports have an 18 year old then going to the car and removing the necklace from Blake. I could pass on further information such as the names of the shooters, the fact that ballistics has matched the murder weapon with another shooting of a 17 year old, but who cares. I guess all that matters is we have a murder of a youngster who, because of athletic ability, was about to get out of Pahokee and at least have a chance. Kids killing kids for nothing. Sad.
