Last year I previewed the top RB's for 2008 and now want to do the same for the 2009 runningback recruits. In true blogger form I offer nothing but free highlight videos and fan crazed analyses, but I digress. Here is last years article: Top Running Backs for 2008
The top Runningback this year, Bryce Brown is the brother of the top linebacker last year, Arthur Brown. Like Arthur, Bryce Brown brings crazy speed and toughness to his respective position and will be going to the Miami Hurricanes. If it all works out like it could, the Brown brothers could be the cornerstone of Miami becoming a top program again. Check out for yourself why Bryce Brown is the best back in the nation. RB Cierre Wood is what people call "smooth". It's not that he's not fast, it's just that he's not an absolute burner. But scouting reports look past his somewhat ho-hum 4.5+ forty time and point to his fluid hips and open field ability, particularly in the return game. Cierre Wood had offers from all the major colleges but chose Notre Dame over UCLA in the end. Check out this run: Cierre Wood TD Run {youtube}_vbcEib2TAE{/youtube}
RB Lamar Miller is another impressive athlete likely headed to Miami. When it rains it pours...sub 4.4 forty RB's--apparently. Miller has great speed to the outside but can also lay the hammer. RB - Lamar Miller - Class of 2009
David Oku is a smaller runner, hovering somewhere under 190 pounds. He's smaller but fast and impressive. Versatility could be Oku's niche, as he claims to have a similiar game to USC's Joe McKnight. AS for his favorites it's tough to gauge. Florida State, Auburn and Michigan have thrown their hat in the ring, while a host of other top schools are paying close attention as well. Jaamal Berry is another South Florida RB who has to be mentioned in the top 5 nationally. He ran a 4.31 forty at a UnderArmour/Scout.com Combine even in Davie Florida, which means Berry is really, really fast. As you see with his video below, he like to pack some punch too in his small-ish frame. I think 90% of his strength comes from his legs, though. He recently visited Ohio State on his own dime and says he'll return for an official visit. Florida, FSU, LSU, Miami, Georgia and Mississippi are all players. On April 14 Ohio State officially offered, on April 15 the Michigan Wolverines countered with an offer too. Look for this to get dirty. Jaamal Berry Highlight Video {youtube}ZUvZMjwKWp4{/youtube}
There are many other quality running backs in the class of 2009. When I find video I'll post it.
