Ohio State OWNS Pennsylvania Print E-mail

Ohio State continues to pluck top recruits outside of the state of Ohio after LB Dorian Bell (#1 SLB-Scout.com) and RB Jordan Hall (#18 RB-Scout.com) committed to the Buckeyes following the spring game. Both of these blue-chip athletes hail from Pennsylvania and both are continuing a trend of Jim Tressel dipping outside the Ohio borders. In addition, Maryland CB Darrell Givens (#9 CB-Scout.com) committed over the weekend giving Ohio State a total of 11 verbals for the 2009 recruiting class.

Of course, in the 2008 class OSU secured signatures from 2 of the top PA players as well in LB Andrew Sweat and phenom QB Terrelle Pryor.

It is interesting to note that Jordan Hall is from the same Jeannette High School, the same stomping grounds of Pryor. I say it's interesting because a bunch of sour fans were trying to compare Pryor to Maurice Clarrett. Well, if anyone remembers MoC (Warren Harding) had an opposite effect with some of his teammates (Prescott Burgess went to Michigan). My point is, those people saying this don't know what the hell they are talking about. Clarrett was a drifter, a loner and lacked basic social skills while Pryor seems to like to be part of a group--committing to OSU partially due to the close relationships he built with fellow recruits.

Moving on, Ohio State OWNS Pennsylvania. This is not really true of course but in the last couple years they've dug up some crowned jewels from the state that brings us recruiting warrior Dave "Porn Stache II" Wannstedt and Joe "wet my diapers" Paterno--who refuses to die, errr, retire (with all due respect).

While Wannstedt has made positive strides in part due to Penn State's mediocre decline, Pitt still does not have the mustard to compete with some of the top programs in the nation. Meanwhile, Penn State fans are left scratching themselves wondering when the hell their selfish ol' ball coach (oh wait, that's the other guy) will give up already. Ohio State and others clearly are more than happy to clean up the mess that is Penn State football.

The 2008 recruiting class totalled 20, with 11 guys coming outside the Ohio borders. This comes after Jim Tressel had put up fairly large fences around Ohio but it now seems he's willing to allow some guys in-state to leave if it means bringing in top notch athletes.
