{mosimage} Phil Savage will be a man without a mission on the 1st day of the NFL draft this year. Last year he traded away the first round draft choice of the Browns to get Brady Quinn - one of the most talked about clip board holders in professional sports. And this year he gave up the rest of the first day to try to find the Browns instant defense. Savage was brought to the Browns as one of the best at drafting in professional sports but he has abandoned his ideal of long term team building to attempt to make this the year for the Browns. Corey Williams, ex of the Packers, and Shaun Rogers, ex of the Lions, will join with Joe Thomas to attempt to create a defensive line. It is hoped that with a better line that Kamerion Wimbley will find more freedom to harrass quarterbacks and to get to running backs than he did in 2007. Both will add a considerable amount of beef to the line weighing in at 320 and 340 respectively. Dante Stallworth, most recently of the Patriots, has been added to the receiving corps. He will add speed to the outside and another option for Derek Anderson or Brady Quinn to throw long to. That will permit Joe Jurevious to be a spot receiver within the red zone and when a big target is needed for short yardage since his age and legs will no longer permit him to be an every down receiver. It appears that with his new contract that Derek Anderson will be the starting quarterback in training camp with Brady Quinn only getting a chance if Derek falters or is injured. The Browns clearly do not want to enter into training camp with the prospect of a quarterback competition as they did last year. Of course, the best part about draft day is that the Cowboys will have the draft choice of the Browns, They were clearly hoping that the Browns would have a normal season and that they would be picking early in the draft. It is unlikely that they will find a talent such as Quinn again dropping that far into the draft. For the Browns fans, draft day will be a day for lawn work rather than charts and speculation.
