{mosimage}The Kobe
Bryant vs. Lebron James argument is fun because it reminds me of the
Jordan/Bird/Magic arguments of yesteryear. Fact is, these two guys have
distinguished themselves as the best and most entertaining guys in the NBA.
The MVP debate is a good one, as Kobe leads a top Lakers team who has quickly evolved, while Lebron is putting up sick numbers with a #5 Eastern squad who is not playing the most consistent basketball in the world. I could throw out all the stats in the world but no matter what people will still disagree with my various points. So instead, here are some various life scenarios and who I'd want in my corner. I am leaving town for awhile and need a friend to take care of my very hot girlfriend while I go on business. You know, so she feels safe. Who would I choose? Lebron, of course. Kobe has the rape accusation but that's not why I'm picking Lebron. James seems more like a kid, so he probably really would show her a good time without romantic implications. I would not let Kobe Bryant have more than an hour alone because something tells me he can smooth talk the best of them and he would certainly try. I'm coaching Team USA and a technical foul will send someone to the line to shoot two. We are losing by 1, with 1 second remaining. Who do I send to the line? Kobe Bryant. He is a solid 84% this year, compared to James' 75%. Free throws are big time but upon further review, I'm bringing John Stockton out of retirement and to the line. It is the 1800's in the Wild Wild West. Lebron and Kobe are big enemies and they are going to face off to see who has the fastest draw in the west. Who would I put money on to win? Kobe Bryant. He is a smooth character, with quick hands. Other than Allen Iverson, I would not want a showdown with anyone else in the league. I'm at a bar with limited funds. Kobe is one bartender, while Lebron is another. Who do I go to? I go to Lebron. He would be more willing to pass out the drinks liberally. Kobe would probably be cool-as he walked out at closing time with my woman. It's game 7 in the NBA finals. My team is down 3 points with 1 minute remaining. Who do I want with the ball in his hands? Kobe Bryant. While I think Lebron is overall the more dominant player, I still give Kobe the nod in this category. He's won titles and shown he can take over a game at critical times. This is not to say Lebron can't or won't but until he does, I'll take Kobe every time.

Lloyds, nice article and interesting analogies on the comparsion. The one intangible that I go with, is who makes his other "buddies" look better. When you look at last year, I have to go with Lebron, as all Kobe did with his "nerdy" friends is complain to his "parents" about wanting to move. While all Lebron did was to take his group of "nerds" all the way to Sea World in San Antoino! Both have received serious upgrades in the "friends" department this year and Kobe seems to have done more with his than Lebron has in about the same amount of time and Kobe does live in the more "tougher" neighborhood, remember that. So based on your argument and my .02, I have to go with the Jedi-Kobe on this years MVP award for the regular season. |
