{mosimage} I like those TV commercials where an actor tells the audience "he has people." It reminds me that "I have people too." For example, I have an A/C guy that provides me with free Freon when my A/C unit gets low. I have a Disney guy that gets my family into Disney once a year for free, and most important, I got a Mortgage guy. Yeah, go ahead and laugh, but my Mortgage guy not only gets me low mortgage rates, he also has season tickets to the Orlando Magic, and occasionally he will throw some tickets my way. That and the fact that he plays on our football fantasy league makes him a value guy to know. I mean, how many of you have a mortgage guy that plays in your football fantasy league, and has season tickets to the Magic? Not many huh? So Mike Riley of Riley Mortgage, this article (plug) on the Orlando Magic win over Denver goes out to you man.

Orlando versus Denver (2/13/08)

A pair of free tickets is a good thing. A pair of free tickets in the lower bowl with a great view of the game is a better thing. And, a pair of free tickets with a great view, for a game between two star studded teams is a fantastic thing. So, the fact that Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson were in town to play Dwight Howard and Rashard Lewis made for a great game to watch.

Getting to the game:

I got to make a note to self to leave work earlier on game day, especially if I have to swing by the house and pick up my son. Also, I have to find a quick route to the arena once I get off the express way. Even my son has realized I have no real plan on how to get there, so by the time we pulled into the parking garage, we are listening to the player intro on the radio. My son thought it was funny, apparently he is not much of a fan yet.

The 1st Quarter:

I could lie and say it was a fantastic quarter, but that would mean I would have been in my assigned seat watching the darn thing, instead of sneaking peaks at the TV monitor while I got my son a pizza, and a drink. All I know is that Dwight Howard was off to a good start after being bench by Van Gundy for a few minutes the game before. Eventually we get to our seats near the end of the first quarter. Denver goes up 28-26.

The Denver Nuggets:

My first impression of the Nuggets goes like this. Iverson looks pretty darn small out there, how the heck is he good for over 40 minutes a night (he would play 43 minutes tonight). Melo can score from anywhere and the headband makes him easy to spot, if you don't confuse him with Keynon Martin. Marcus Camby has a funny release on his shot, but yeah, the dude can reject a shot (he had 4 tonight). Who the heck is Linas Kleiza? I thought I knew most of the Russian players in the league, I was wrong.

The Rest of the Game:

Somehow Hedo Turkoglu got in foul trouble and has to sit, but sub Brian Cook is on fire. Cook ends up the night with 18 points (his most this season) and hits on 4 out of 5 three-pointers. Howard is dominating Camby on the boards, hard to imagine these two are fighting for a rebound title. Dwight will go on to collect a season high 24 rebounds, and score 23 points. He is playing like a man possessed. The guy next to me is impressed by how high Dwight is leaping. On the offense of glass he collects 9 rebounds. People make fun of his free throws though as he misses 7. On the other side of things, Melo is having a 32 point outing, and he has his share of fans in the stands. I get a few pictures of Anthony after a dozen or so tries. Second note to self, the camera is to slow for the action on the floor. Rashard Lewis seems to be worth every nickel as he goes from hitting three-pointers to slamming the ball along the baseline. Turkoglu gets hot in the last quarter and gets 12 of his 18 points for the night, to help seal the victory. Redick never sees the floor, though Bogans and Evans have a combined 2 out 15 night. The Duke star has to be deep, deep in the coach's dog house.

The Streak:

In the end, the Magic gain their 15 straight victory at home against Denver, winning the game 109-98. The last time they lost to this team at home was 1992. I wonder what the record for such a streak is.

Epilog:

Dwight Howard redeemed himself in a big way, though the 24 rebounds are lost on my son as he tries to catch the streamers coming down from the rafters at the close of a game. On the way out, we forget where we park, go to the wrong lot, and in horror we start thinking the car has been towed away. It's the wife's car too, so there will be a lot of explaining to do. Then my son points out, we parked in PC2 not PC1, and the panic is over.

I think to myself, everyone should have a good mortgage guy, maybe I should write an article and let everyone know the difference between having a good mortgage guy and not having one.
