I along with the rest of the world do not know what, if anything, Terrelle Pryor
will do tomorrow. This I do know. The mania surrounding the recruitment
of TP is nuts. I just Googled TP and came up with 65 pages of listings.
What is he-like 18 years old? Maybe I am caught up in the TP hysteria
because he is considering my team. Possibly the rest of the country
could give a rats ass, but in my world his recruitment is starting to
cut into the gross national product. People are not working. They are
jumping from one site to the next just in case there is something new.
Hell, you can't even get a handle on whether or not he is committing on
Wednesday, let alone where he is committing to.
I suspect Terrelle is ushering in a new world regarding recruiting. Earlier this recruiting season I watched with amazement as to how the recruiting of Arthur Brown was handled, but shit, that is nothing as compared to what is happenning now with TP. As you have seen in previous articles I am concerned about cheating in recruiting. I'm not saying there hasn't been cheating with TP because I sure as hell have no clue, but what I see here is something different. Some people want money. Some want power. Some want fame/notoriety. Fame seems to be the deal here. I would prefer to blame this on the grownups around TP, but that doesn't wash as TP seems to be doing alot of the calling or at least receiving the calls himself. I could always understand the kids taking their visits. Free food, girls, being wined and dined on someone elses nickle-what not to like. In this case Terrelle has taken only two official visits. So TP plays football and Bball, must go to school, and spends the rest of his time speaking to recruiters, recruiting services, and the media. Why? If I can remember being 18 my life was playing ball, hanging with my buds, and chasing girls. I guess this is where this whole deal confuses me. I don't understand idiots who wear bombs around their chests just as I don't understand the obvious seeking out of fame/attention at TP's age. I wish the kid the best-unless he choses the wrong school. I hope his ego or my perception of his ego will allow him to go to school and if not blend in with the other freshman, at least with the freshman athletes. He will be a marked man and he has brought that upon himself. Hopefully we will see a success story and not another crash and burn scenerio. It seems to me that in our "new" world of recruiting TP has set the bar. Guessing here that there are high school underclassmen that see themselves as the next TP. TP has led the way and we will see this circus again and again-substitute names and faces. Guys like me feed this deal. My oldest son told me after Wednesday he is done. He says he is done with what has become 12 months of madness-recruiting. We shall see, but I can't argue the fact that although we are fans, there must be something not right about us to buy into this madness. Madness taken to new heights by Terrelle Pryor. PS Terrelle: I will be anxiously awaiting your announcement on Wednesday!
