{mosimage} Timing is everything and alarm bells are ringing in the ears of college football fans as 2 stories have popped up (again) concerning Reggie Bush taking $300,000 and Pete Carroll who could be "in talks" for the lonely position known as the Head Coach of the Atlanta Falcons. One can't help but wonder if Carroll's curiosity and the book alleging Bush of taking the cash and running (for a heisman) have to do with one another. First off, Yahoo Sports has been all over this story. ESPN, not so much. This is interesting to note because ESPN usually gobbles up these reports and investigates every grandma and 3rd cousin of a potential problem athlete until all hope is gone (for respectable journalism). The number, 300,000, is a ridiculous set of digits that only Chris Webber of Michigan's Fab 5 could scoff at. For USC defense attorney's and devoted fanatics, the "it goes on everywhere" defense is smothered by the blatant negligence towards the rules set by the NCAA, university and USC coaches. This is not a handshake that results in a PlayStation 3, this is a new car and house type of loot. This is not free rent, this is free living. This is $300,000. I have not read the book (Tarnished Heisman) and never will, but it can be assumed that the main slime ball (Lloyd Lake) received a nice chunk of sweaty unearned cash in return. Lloyd and his posse (stooges) created "New Era Sports & Entertainment", which was supposed to lead to agent representation for Reggie Bush, until quickly shit hit the fan. When these wannabe sports agents loaned Bush the money, they thought he would actually pay them back (allegedly). Bush must have realized these snails had slithered far enough and poured salt on their pathetic attempts at fame and fortune. Check out the 20 damaging tidbits that Yahoo outlines in their report. It is pretty amazing how obtuse everyone involved seemed to be: Reggie Bush investigation documents Amazing.... What's next is everyone waits on word from the NCAA, who is in the process of figuring out how to penalize their largest cash cow, by far, on the west coast. I don't think Pete Carroll looking at the Falcons (potentially) has anything to do with the Bush stuff. But judging from the evidence and the Reggie Bush picture in front of his Chevy Impala purchased by New Era (allegedly), you can see why Southern California is not exactly a bed of roses these days, despite Carroll's success on the field. I suspect that $300,000 later, the peeps at USC had to have suspected something. It does not make Pete Carroll and USC corrupt but it could potentially leave their accomplishments in doubt and void of the record books. It could make Reggie Bush appear to be a selfish, ignorant human being. And it could lead to every fan of college football wanting to burn Lloyd Lake and his cast of misfits over a slow burning fire. Or, at the very least, get beat up at a local bar. Either way, some good guys will likely look bad in the end and local boosters/agents who lack that thing called 'dignity' will continue to live life in their filthy, predictable, merry way.
