{mosimage} The 2007 version of the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl featured one dominant team (Texas Longhorns), one slumping team (ASU) and one releived Mack Brown son-in-law (Chris Jessie). Happy holiday's Jessie, you can be thankful your father-in-law recruits better talent than the rest of the Pac 10 (Exception: USC). Down 21-0, Arizona State had finally put together a drive at the start of the second quarter. Inside the 20 yard line, QB Rudy Carpenter stepped back to pass and got hit from behind, causing his intended pass to fly laterally and slightly behind him, thus resulting in a fumble. It seemed half the Texas staff was a foot or two out on the field, with Chris Jessie a good 3 feet on the playing field. With the ball fumbling it's way towards him, he instinctively reached down and kind of almost sort of maybe touched it. Texas recovered the loose ball and ran it back 35 yards inside the ASU 50 yard line. It was originally ruled on the field that he did not touch it but upon further review, it was determined he did in fact touch it, I suppose, with the very top of his finger resulting in a reversed call and ASU ball. Just his luck, the Sun Devils scored on the very next play resulting in a much more exciting game. {mosimage} In my opinion, he may have touched the ball but there was not indisputable evidence needed to reverse the call. Next year I really need to record every replay that is screwed up one way or another because it would be a long list. If you count some of the plays that are not available for review because of a whistle blowing a play dead, the list would be much longer. Anywhoo, Texas went on to win 52-34 in a dominating performance. Truth be told and despite what Chris Jessie claims, he probably did touch the ball. I just did not think there was enough evidence to overturn the call. Here is the VIDEO for anyone who missed it.
