{mosimage} We are approaching the dead period in recruiting and things are interesting all over the country and in Buckeye land.
This weekend past OSU hosted West Virginia native Josh Jenkins. Jenkins has been a "soft" verbal to West Virginia forever. It has been no secret that OSU would like Josh to become the fourth member of this Oline class joining JB Shugarts, Mike Adams, and Michael Brewster. Jenkins is the Scout.com #1 rated offensive guard. He has visited OSU many times, but reportedly enjoyed his official visit. He plans on visiting FSU and West Virginia in January with a visit to Nebraska possible. Most believe this will come down to OSU/West Virginia. We see no indication of an early commit. Joining Jenkins in Columbus this past weekend was Georgia DE Keith Wells. Wells is projected as a speed rusher. He is a "soft" verbal to FSU. Well's stated goal is to visit Auburn, possibly more, and end his trips to FSU. At that time he says he will pick the school that is best for him. Wells is a 4 star Scout.com DE and is ranked as the #16DE. Where he goes is anyones guess but the southern pull may not be as strong as for others as it is reported that his mother is moving to New York after her son goes to college. Joining Wells and Jenkins for their official visits were Cleveland Glenville footballers Cordale Scott and Shawntel Rowell. Rowell is a Dt and does not have an OSU offer. He is rated by Scout as the #51 DT and a 3 star recruit. Scott is projected as a WR, but could ultimately be a safety. Scout also has Scott as a 3 star recruit and the #51 ranked WR recruit. Scott is offered and expected to be a Buckeye. Both players are visiting Illinois this weekend. Last, but not least as this past weekends official visitors was PA native Shayne Hale. Shayne is positioned by Scout as a DE and ranked #2 in the country. He is a 5 star recruit. As far as I am concerned his recruitment has been weird. Last summer OSU seemed to be on him big time with an in season time where that didn't seem to be the case. It appears that Hale wants to play linebacker and the schools he is considering have all told him he could be a linebacker, but most expect him to be a DE. It looks like this recruitment is between OSU and Pitt, with West Virginia as a possibility. Hale's cousin, Cameron Saddler very recently committed to Pitt. We haven't known what to think regarding this recruitment in a long time. An interesting recruiting tidbit being reported is that Michael Brewster will be rooming with Terrelle Pryor in San Antonio for the All American game. Got to like that. Rumors are always floating around and there has been an ongoing thought that verbal committment Devoe Torrence will not be a member of this recruiting class. Devoe is a 4 star recruit and rated as the Scout # 6 RB. You will recall that when Devoe was recruited he was promised by Coach Tressel that he would be the only RB in this class. Again, there is nothing but rumors, but it appears you can take those rumors to the bank as OSU has begun to recruit available running backs. We think it will be interesting to see if OSU can interest a good back this far into the recruiting process. Without Torrence OSU would have 4 running backs next year, but only two the year after assuming Beanie Wells decides to go to the NFL. This from the frontpage of Bucknuts: Katy, Texas, running back Aundre Dean, who committed to UCLA before the firing of Karl Dorrell, has opened his recruitment back up. The Buckeyes were at Dean's high school last week and the trip to the Lonestar State may result in an official visit to Ohio State by Dean. |

| I was in partly in charge of running the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association's annual conference the last 5 years (I worked at the hotel) and I had heard about some negative attitude problems, thus the transfer. This came from a coach who had some first hand knowledge, but it could have been a rumor or his personal dislike for Devoe. If it was grades last year, possible legal trouble this year, it could escalate into something worse if he comes to Ohio State. I hope it is all rumors and he becomes an Ohio State legend, but something tells me we may never see this Torrence on a Buckeye field. | |
