{mosimage}My opinion of the BCS and the process can be summed up pretty easily-Its Bullshit. I believe it is Bullshit, because I believe champions should be determined on the field of play and not by computers and voters. Addressing my fellow writers here at Deathrattle, we as a group are pretty serious about our college sports. Hell, Lloyds can't even get a real job and can only hope we do our Christmas shopping on Deathrattle-hint! Do you guys think the majority of voters watch the amount of ball you do. Week after week we see voters vote for the flavor of the week-its crap.
Sure I'm a happy camper. My team is in the big dance. At the same time maybe I shouldn't lose sleep over Missouri because, well, its Missouri. Rest assured, if I don't lose sleep over the screwing Missouri got, then when my team takes a turn at being screwed I shouldn't lose any sleep over that either. I guess it isn't my problem fans of Oklahoma, USC, and Georgia not only think they should be in the big dance, but would also win the game. Prior to Saturday night I had accepted the fact that my team would hook up mwith USC in the Rose Bowl. Pretty cool deal for a team that blew its chance against Illinois. Again, I was OK with that. At the same time, did I believe in my head or heart that the winner of a West Virginia/Missouri matchup would be the true, for real, national champion-not a chance. My opinion would have been that there were multiple teams out there that could beat either West Virginia or Missouri, including my team. Understand I believe the system is screwed up because I want the drama that comes with a one and done deal. I want my champion to survive the playoff gauntlet bloodied and bruised, but emerge victorious. Because that is not our system, I think it is screwed up. Please though understand the holders of the power in this deal think the system is okie dokie. Sure they will tinker with it here and there, but that is just to placate us, the fans. The power people are tickled pink with the system. Why are they happy and satisfied with the things the way the are? Are you just stupid or what? It is dam near always the same answer-money! The bowls make money, TV makes money, and the colleges make money. Screw the fans, they all make money so they are good to go. As an aside, from the beginning of the season you hear that this bowl representative and that bowl representative are in attendance at your game. Hell of a gig there. You get to travel to a game, see a game while being wined and dined on someone elses nickel, all for the reason to see a potential game for your bowl-while you are watching it from home as they could be. Its the money and the power. That is it. They could care less that the fans are denied memorable moments of true championship tournament action. Hell, they probably don't even mind the screwing Missouri just took as this helps keep the whole deal on page one for awhile. The TV guys sure don't care as it gives them something to talk about, and they, of course, make money. So, having said what I have said, where does this leave me? Sure, the best thing we fans could do is just ignore our teams. I've done it before. Baseball drove me away and I never went back. I am not the pro football fan I once was. Sure that is the real way to force change, but I can't do that. Me and my team are joined at the hip and I can't see that changing. Hell, those of us who follow this site have seen the agony Bugeatersteve has gone through this year with his Big Red and his fanhood ain't changing. Look at Nick Meyer and his Wolverines-he hasn't come over from the darkside, He's a fan. So, if we are going to remain fans we either have to accept a flawed and unfair system that is run by money people who value the money and the power over true competition and the fans---or, hear me Lloyds-we need a bit of a fan revolution. To coin a phrase-money talks and bullshit walks. Those of us who think the system cheats the fans need to make themselves heard with their voices and their pocketbooks. The fan revolution I purpose needs a forum to voice our displeasure with the system, and unfortunately, in my opinion, needs to also hit the powerful in the billfold. Just need a forum to start the revolution and then we can....... (to be continued, hopefully)

I like an 8 team playoff. A conference championship should remain optional. I don't care what anyone says, those games are all about money. It's hard to have uniformity with that because conferences fluctuate in size. The only way to have it even, is if everyone drops it. You know, it's no wonder everyone hates the Big 10. The Rose Bowl picks Illinois. Just like that, the Big 10 has 2 teams in BCS Bowls. The system is not a good one. A playoff would be better. I still think you can have bowl games in addition to a playoff. |
