Who to root for?
I did it in 2002, but now I don't think I can do it again. That was the year I rooted hard for the Bucks to upend Miami in the Fiesta Bowl.
But when Ken Dorsey threw that last pass into the ground and the Ohio State faithful celebrated, I had that moment of realiztion where I thought to myself "What have I done?" Even though I flat-out hate OSU most of the year, my loyalty to the Big Ten and dislike of all the SEC snobs has generally overrided that feeling for the past few years. I tend to root for OSU out-of-conference all the time. But to root for them in this painful 2007 when it was supposed to be Michigan's year (after all, they had the three senior NFL prospects coming back) and yet OSU still managed to run through the Big Ten on their way to an all-too-easy league title and BCS consideration...I just don't know. The Champs Sports Bowl would be almost as big of a humiliation as the Appy State loss and Lloyd Carr "deserves better" as he said after that Spartan Bob clock game at Michigan State for his last ever bowl game. Then again, old Lloyd's bowl record has slipped quite a bit in recent years and maybe he deserves such a humbling considering how poorly he and his staff performed. All in all, I just don't know. I thought OSU's title in '02 would inspire Michigan to challenge their old ways of thinking and take more chances to get to that level but it never really did. Ah, what the hell: West Virginia/Missouri just sounds too funny to pass up in this Year of the Upset. Sorry OSU fans but I've got to root for Mizzou and WVU this weekend. By the way, if WVU and OSU do play, I like the Buckeyes. Let's do this one more time, and let the cards fall where they may. Good luck.
