{mosimage}As this college football season is winding down we are seeing coaches
dropping like flies. Some are being fired. Some just want to retire and
go fishin. Some are resigning because that is what they needed to do
before being fired. The list as we know it is as follows: Houston McNutt/Arkansas- Our thought is Coach McNutt could have stayed if he wanted to, but the crap of this last year took its toll-see previous Deathrattle articles. Coach McNutt compiled a 75 and 48 record at Arkansas and what a way to go out with the awesome game against LSU. Lloyd Carr/ Michigan Coach Carr resigned. We think the "expectations pressure" took its toll. Losing to OSU and the bowl games became too much. Dennis Franchione/Texas A&M We think he is outta-there for being stupid. A&M has hired Mike Sherman who hasn't coached in college since 1996. Chan Gailey/Georgia Tech Six straight years with a winning record & 6 straight years having lost to Georgia. See ya. Bill Callahan/Nebraska Having spent this college season reading Bugeatersteves DeathRattle articles and feeling his pain over the net we say to Bill-don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. Ted Roof/Duke Winning 4 game in 4 years. Christ-even Notre Dame beat you. Joe Novak/Northern Illinois Retired after 12 years with a record of 63&75. Tough year this year, but Northern Illinois will play hell trying to replace Coach Novak. Jeff Bowers/ Southern Mississippi Resigned with a not so gentle push. 17 seasons with 119 victories. So, ya'll got tired of Coach Bowers-good luck! Sonny Lubick/Colorado State Still the coach, but buyout discussions are taking place. Most successful coach in school history win a record of 108 & 74 over 15 seasons. Ed Oreron/Ole Miss Fired! Might be in demand as an assistant. First time since 1982 with no conference victory. Guy Morris/Baylor Fired! 5 seasons and a 18 & 40 record. 7 & 33 in Big 12 games. The Duke job is open. Bill Doba/Washington State Resigned after 5 seasons with a 30 & 29 record. This is the present list of out of work coaches as we know it. Coaches these days make big bucks, but with the big bucks come high expectations and demands. Like others in the public eye, coaches are not only watched on the field, but also watched off the field. You want to be a big time coach then you know the deal coming in. Obviously there is a bottom line for these coaches. That bottom line is money to the university and victories. The pressure is great to produce both. As this continues, we will continue to see shortcuts taken and we predict the ongoing escalation of coaches salaries as coaches such as Nick Saban nomad around the place. Further, you will see the Notre Dame/Charlie Weis model of I won a few games, the NFL is sniffing around, so pull up the brinks truck, pay me a boat load of money for a very long time-and I will stay. Forget the fact I already had a contract. Do I mind any of this? Not really as long as my team and my coach wins. Remember, I am a fan!
