{mosimage} The stakes are high and the BCS folk are laughing all the way to the bank....or wherever and the hell those evil twits laugh at. Regardless of what you think of the BCS (I'd imagine most hate it) there will be a ton of drama this weekend. Now, if these teams were playing for conference titles and a playoff spot (among the top 8 teams, let's say) the drama would be good too in preperation for crazy tourney drama. Oh, but one can dream.
Here is what I'll be watching and thinking on Saturday and where to place your sports bets.
I wake up, bright and early. Most likely too early for College Gameday, so I watch SportsCenter prelude into what we've been waiting for; Lee Corso to be ridiculous. I'm going to wear my Block "O" hat for good luck. OSU was 10-0 when I had the hat on. In the two games I could not find it, 1-1. OSU will need some good luck on Saturday to make it to the BCS title game. 12:00pm EASTERN Kickoff: Virginia Tech at Virginia This game won't have BCS championship implications, but these teams hate each other and are having similar seasons so this should be fun to watch. Great game for the noon time slot. I'm likely eating pizza and wings (with ranch or blue cheese) in preparation for my massive blowout later in the night. This is a very tough game for me to call. I'm predicting shenanigans in this one VTECH- 21 Virginia-22 1:30pm EASTERN Tennessee vs. Kentucky Can Kentucky pull off the upset and send Georgia to the SEC Championship game? Maybe, they've all been close lately. It is my belief that Georgia WOULD beat LSU while Tennessee most likely would not, so I'm pulling for Kentucky in this game. I've underestimate Kentucky all season. I want them to win. Will these 2 irrelevant factors be enough? Yes, I like Kentucky at home. Phulmer avoided the hotseat last week, this week he's sitting on the floor. Tennessee- 27 Kentucky-30 2:30pm EASTERN 11-23-07 LSU (-12 1/2) vs. Arkansas LSU has been waiting to lose, again, all season. Arkansas RB Darren McFadden has been waiting to capture the hearts of Heisman Trophy voters all season. For either to happen, McFadden will have to run all over LSU and set up a passing game that has struggled. This is no small task. LSU-30 Arkansas- 24 3:30pm EASTERN UCONN vs. West Virginia This is for the Big East title and if WVU wins, they still have a good chance at a championship game. UCONN is solid and balanced but they don't have anywhere near the firepower that West Virginia has. The Mountaineers have struggled vs. solid defensive play with turnovers, but it will take a bunch of them to lose this game. I'm rooting for UCONN big in this one. If they lose, I want to look ugly. OSU, imo, is better than West Virginia. More talent (NFL projections--check 'em out!). But voters will use other logic and say WVU is faster and the BIG East is better than the Big Ten. Let's see if they can keep a straight face because that's put bullshit. WVU is riddled with guys OSU would never offer a scholarship to. Georgia at Georgia Tech Georgia needs to win and hope Tennessee loses. If this happens, they will play LSU in the SEC Championship and have an outside shot at a BCS Championship bid. SEC beats ACC in this one. Georgia- 34 GTech- 24 5:00pm EASTERN Florida State Seminoles at Florida Gators (-13 1/2) This will have no bearing on the BCS except for SOS for other top teams. I suppose UF has an outside shot at an at-large bid. The swamp will be a tough place to play for this inconsistent FSU team. If UF wins, Tebow will likely be the front-runner for Heisman. Is it by default? Perhaps, but his stats are great and he is as great a quarterback as there is around...as a sophomore. Archie Griffin's record is in serious jeopardy of at least being tied (2 total) if Tebow wins it this year. An upset could be in the works. UF- 24 FSU-21 7:00pm EASTERN Clemson at South Carolina This game is a good one; ACC vs. SEC. Alabama's loss last week was a legit "black-eye" loss. I expect Clemson to win big. Let's see if they bring the sometimes elusive attitude that makes them wildly incosnsistent at times. Clemson- 34 South Carolina- 17 Alabama at Auburn Speaking of 'Bama, they take on Auburn in one of the best rivalries in college football. Win this game and Nick Saban is off the hook for last week. It will be a tough task, no doubt. Alabama-17 Auburn- 24 8:00pm EASTERN Mizzou at Kansas Huge game. National spotlight. Herbie may be wearing a hat. Drama. Big 12 championship. BCS implications all over the place. At this point I've already had a massive blowout and am cooking microwaved meals and eating halloween candy. Beer has been in the equation for some time. I only answer phone calls about Ohio State or college football....unless it's my girlfriend. I've been like everyone else and overlooking Kansas. They are obviously good, win this game and they earn even more respect. But, I'll still probably pick against them in the Big 12 Championship (against OU unless they lose, then it's Texas). I see Chase Daniel pulling this one out and possibly a Heisman. Mizzou- 28 Kansas-27 * Not all lines are set yet. I'll update this page when they are. I was 6-6 against the spread last week. Should have saved myself time and flipped a coin.
