{mosimage} While this is mostly a rumor, it's being widely reported on and speculated about in Michigan.
According to the popular blog mgoblog.com, sources inside the Michigan athletic department have been informed that Lloyd Carr intends to announce his retirement win or lose after the Ohio State game this weekend. Both Carr and athletic director Bill Martin have declined to comment on the rumors but neither actually denied them. Carr has structured his contract so as to make it easy financially for him to walk away after this season. He also successfully lobbied for contracts that will pay his assitant coaches until 2009 regardless of whether they are still employed by the University. These rumors come on the heels of reports a couple weeks ago that LSU coach Les Miles was looking for a house near Ann Arbor. Miles has a large buyout in his contract specifically in case of a possible move to Michigan, however. Once again, these are rumors at this point but several media outlets have mentioned the possibility of Carr retiring as being strong at this point.

| I've never minded Lloyd Carr and I always thought he was a very good coach. One of the finest in the country in my opinion and I thought he didn't get a fair shake, simply because the standards of success at a program like Michigan are so extremely high. I think the knocks on the coaching staff's inability to defend a spread attack are quite merted, but I think many other coaches in the country would have had trouble defending a spread offense, so he's not alone. Dennis Dixon is one of the most electrifying quarterbacks in the country and I don't think anyone will be able to stop him, including LSU. That Arizona game this week is going to be very interesting--but I can't see the Ducks losing either of their last two. Dixon is too good and I think if the Ducks win out, he'll be the owner of the Heisman Trophy. | |

I think he would be a good hire but i dont know if he'd be the best. the main things i like about him are a) he hires the BEST coordinators on O and D (Crowton from BYU's awesome offense, Pelini from NEB I believe) instead of his buddies like Carr who hired Mike DeBord who failed at Central Michigan and b) he is a true michigan man the latter is also almost a detriment though. the whole history and tradition of michigan aspect is a bit overdone and part of me wants to see michigan move forward and start changing things up to contend for natl titles more often not just big ten ones |
