{mosimage}Well, I only had one new addition to my bottom 5 this week, as the Rice Owls rose up from despare and smacked down the UTEP Miners 56 to 48. Now I know that everyone is expecting me to put Nebraska back into the bottom 5 due to the 76. But you are going to have to read the entire article to find out.....
Number 5 - Notre Dame "Crying Irish" Well they have done it now. Ended the longest streak in College Football history, an NCAA record of 43 straight games to Navy. So what exactly can Charlie Weiss and company do for an encore? They have another service academy on tap for this Saturday facing 7-3 Air Force. I don't foresee a good ending to this season, although for a ray of hope they play 1-8 Duke the following week. Number 4 - Northern Illinois "Muskies" - This team is really bringing it "A" game the last couple of weeks. After being smashed by Wisconsin 44-3, they came out two week ago and lost to Powerhouse Toledo by the score of 70-21. Next loss at home against Kent State. Number 3 - Minnesota "rodents" - Making their initial appearance in the bottom 5. Yes the easy route would have been to put my Huskers here. But an examination of the NCAA's defensive category rankings shows that the Gophers are earning this spot: They're 103rd in rushing defense, 116th in pass efficiency defense, and dead last -- 119th -- in total defense. They're also 111th in scoring defense, 116th in turnover margin, and 115th in sacks. Did I make my case? Lost 44-17 to Illinois. Next loss Saturday to Iowa Number 2 - Utah State "maggies" Lost to Fresno State 38 - 27 going to 0-9 on the season. Next loss will be this Saturday against Boise State on Saturday. Number 1 - Florida International "yellow cats" - For the 5th straight week the "cats" have been the worst of the worst as they stretched their streak to 22 straight and cemented their ranking as number 1 with a nail-bitter over Arkansas State 27-24. Next loss to Louisiana-International.
Dropping out AGAIN the Rice Owls. See you next week...
