{mosimage} After a week or two of setting up plot lines this show finally started to come alive again, in this the fifth episode of the season. So lets dive right in and rehash what transpired in Dillon Texas this week.

Panther Football:
Well the good news is that Coach Taylor (Kyle Chandler) is back with the team. The bad news is the team is in disarray going into the third game of the season. Riggins (Taylor Kitsch) is still down in Mexico. Smash (Gaius Charles) and Matt are at each others throat, and the rest of the team is tense. Well, Coach Taylor benches the two bickering stars and Dillon is seen down 0-13 by halftime. Enter Landry, or as the coach mistakenly calls him, Lance. Landry gives a small awkward inspirational halftime speech about the whole being greater than the sum of the parts, gets a tackle that causes a fumble and leads to a touchdown, and then is on the receiving end of a pass interference call that sets up the winning touchdown by Smash Williams. The Panthers win the game, and Landry goes home a hero. Not that the wicked writers give him long to celebrate, as Tyra waits in the wings to break up with him.

Tyra and Landry:
Wouldn’t you know it, my favorite story line hits a brick wall. Landry’s dad (Jesse Plemons) gets suspicious of how things are going down in the Clark home and takes a little trip to see Tyra (Adrianne Palicki). The protective parental instincts kick in and he bluntly tells Tyra to stay out of Landry’s life. Tyra, who is proud of Landry for his game winning heroics, has to crush our hero with an utterly savage little breakup speech. Hopefully these two will get back together before season’s end.

Lyla, Street, Riggins, and the Intervention:
At Riggin’s request, Lyla (Minka Kelly) turns up in Mexico for an intervention on Street, who is bound and determined to go through with the stem cell injection that may or may not kill him, but which most likely will not heal him. They pick a booze cruise aboard a small boat to confront Street, who after landing a few verbal low blows, attempts to commit suicide by jumping (or falling, since he can’t really jump) overboard. He ends up washed up on a nearby beach when he decides that life is worth living after all and swims to shore. Which leaves me to think, what the heck is the crippled kid doing on the boat without a life jacket? The Intervention ends up working and our threesome is seen heading back to Texas.

Julie and Matt or Life after the Swede:
So after Julie (Aimee Teegarden) is disillusioned with the Swede, she decides to make nice with Matt (Zach Gilford) again. At first it looks like Matt is going to be a chump and go running back to Julie, but in the end he comes to his senses and tells her to take a hike. Good for Matt, finally the QB develops a backbone. Hopefully Jules will shed a few tears for him the rest of the season, though I doubt that her character runs that deep.

The Taylors:
Okay this story line about a sex life after a pregnancy made me laugh. Look, the guy (Coach Taylor) was at a job four hours away from home for a good part of the summer and the start of the season, how are we suppose to believe he can’t wait to get his postpartum wife in bed? Give me a break. But hey, at least he ran off and bought Tulips and gave his wife a night out, that’s nice. I have a better idea, make that brat of an elder daughter baby sit for once in her life, and go on a date with your wife, the whole thing would seem a lot more sincere that way.

Storylines that did not get air time this week:
The kid coming out of probation did not get a mention since Layla was in Mexico saving Street. Also not getting a mention was Matt’s family’s caretaker, though now that he is free of Jules that relationship might develop a little faster. Buddy Garrity, was also missing for most of the show.

Next Week:
Looks like the whole homicide thing comes back to haunt Landry, lucky for him (maybe) that dad’s a cop and will probably help him fix the mess. Still, it will cost the boy at least his relationship with the Applebee vixen Tara. In a briefly mentioned story line, Coach Taylor does not get paid. Hey, maybe he will coach for the love of the game, no?
