{mosimage} There are many recruits who have great size but lack in speed. Or, they are fast but lack the physical frame needed to maintain that quickness once they bulk up. Then, there are other guys who are smart, physical, agile, tough and show incredible promise to improve on all of those areas. Meet Andrew Sweat (6-2 233lbs.). Andrew Sweat committed to Ohio State on May 31, 2007 after considering Notre Dame, among others. He was offered by all of the top schools in the Midwest and also received offers from many other schools, including Alabama and Florida. He is rated as the #5 inside linebacker by Scout.com, #2 by ESPN and #6 by Rivals.com. In his junior season he produced 165 tackles, 13 tackles-for-loss and 4 sacks. From the limited highlight video I saw of him it's obvious he can run and tackle with authority. Let's just say I would not wish getting hit by Andrew Sweat upon my worst enemy. Most of all, he is an athlete, pure and simple. He has a fast motor and reacts well to any given situation. Instinct is something you can't teach. Current OSU MLB James Laurinaitis has it, and please excuse the lofty comparison, but Sweat has it too.
We were lucky enough to get a quick Q & A with Andrew and find out what he has to say about recruiting, college and much more. Q: I hear you play with a seek and destroy mentality. If I'm a runningback, what am I thinking as Andrew Sweat in my face? I just love to play the game. And I sometimes get that mentality so if Andrew Sweat is in my face I am thinking I need to get ready to take a big hit. Even if I miss I'm going to hit.
I really liked the people at Ohio State from Coach Tressel to my linebacker coach, Coach Fickle. Everyone has great facilities but every doesn't have the people Ohio State has. Q: Many freshman at OSU that don't redshirt play special teams. What have you been told to expect at Ohio State in your first season both on and off the field?
I haven't really been told much I guess it is just how I do in camp to see whether I get redshirted or not.
I could see myself excelling in baseball which might be my best sport, but playing D1 football will take up plenty of time. I talk to all of the commits but I guess Terrelle Pryor and Shayne Hale.
Q: What is your favorite thing about playing High School football in Pennsylvania? I will major in Business Finance.
Thanks to Andrew Sweat for helping out and best of luck in the future!
