No longer a baseball fan, but an avid college football fan I took a
look at the television ratings from this past Saturday evenning. At 8:00PM Fox broadcast game 3 of the World Series. ABC broadcast the OSU/Penn State game. CBS had a rerun of NCIS. NBC showed a scary movie. The Nielson ratings(per million viewers) are as follows: 1. Fox-World Series 13 million 2. ABC-College football 7.27 million 3. CBS- NCIS 6.68 million 4. NBC-scary movie 3.16 million I guess I just have to get used to being in the minority these days as I never gave a thought to watching the Series. I have no idea if the Series ratings justify the cost to Fox for the TV rights or not. I do believe Fox won on Sunday night in the 8:00PM time slot, also.

Baseball is kind of a really long boring joke to me these days. In 1992 (?) they go on strike. Then Cal Ripken is supposed to bring fans back to the game. Sorry, Cal was not all that great. Yeah, I said it. His stats make him good but not as good as Barry Larkin. Sure he got up in the morning. Whatever...the excitement of that glorious moment seemed lame to me. Then, a bunch of steroid freaks pump fans back into the seats, following the weak ass rules MLB laid before them. Then, they are busted for being steroid freaks. Then, Bud Selig acts like he had no idea everyone was juiced. Then, they pump in ratings through the 'roids controversy. Then Congress gets involved. McGwire pops zits in front of a bunch of Senators. Then he cries and I laugh. Then, Bostons wins. Then they win again. A-Rod took steroids, it's obvious. Let me know when it gets interesting again. That's my opinion on baseball these days. When given the choice between the World Series or any college football game, I choose any college football game. Baseball creeps me out. |

| Baseball doesn't really creep me out, but it is just too slow of a game and college football will always be my favorite game to watch regardless of the time of the year. If they had college football re-runs or classic games(I really need to get ESPN Classic) I would watch those anytime. College football is by far my favorite, because of the passion and traditions surrounding the event are so much more meaningful, for me at least. The fans seem so much more attached to the team at the college level than in the pros. Just a personal opinion though. | |
