OSU traveled into Happy Valley Saturday evening and took care of
business. The season had become a 4 game tournament for the Bucks. Now
it is a 3 game tournament. Last night the offense seized the headlines. QB Todd Boeckman, less one interception, was very efficient. Looked like a good job to have Saturday night. Boeckman had Wells and Wells running hard and gaining yards. Absent one long ball Ray Small could have caught, his receivers got open and caught the ball. The Oline opened holes for the running backs while holding the Penn State NCAA sack leaders to only one sack when the game was no longer in doubt. Boeckman had time to throw. Particularly interesting to me was the Bucks command of 3rd down. The tight ends became involved which I guess is just an aspect of the evolution of the offense. Just a fine offensive job. Take away the late fourth quarter kickoff return by AJ Wallace the special teams performed as you would hope. Noteworthy was the 50 yard field goal to open the scoring. The Bucks never punted. The Bucks had better defensive performances, but I guess you shouldn't bitch about giving up 10 points. Penn State had some success running the ball. To the untrained eye it appeared Penn State was blocking man up, freeing linemen to get into the linebackers. Freeman had a basket full of tackes. Lil' animal got blocked a lot. I really don't know what to think about this as the week before MSU had no luck running the ball. This week is PJ Hill and Wisconsin so it will be an interesting aspect of this game. Denlinger should be back for this game which should help. Again, it is hard to bitch about any aspect of last nights game. The team has to feel great about playing as they did in a very hostile environment. It could just be my imagination that OSU is playing with a chip on its shoulder since the NC game. I'm thinking the team is enjoying giving the middle finger to the OSU/Big Ten media bashers. Again, time will tell where this deal is going, but the ride to date has been fun. Now for the news that sucks-kickoff against Wisconsin is at noon and is a BTN game.
