{mosimage} The fourth episode of season two turned out to be a little more than a bridge for plot lines introduced in last week’s episode. With no new or unexpected plot twists to speak of, it was the equivalent of a safe run between the tackles, one that neither produced a touchdown or a first down for that matter. For those who missed their weekly fix of the scrappy team from Dillon Texas, we will break it down for you by story line.

Tyra and Landry:
The opening of this plot line was promising, with Tyra (Adrianne Palicki) joining Landry's family for dinner. But the writers of course cannot leave well enough alone, and Landry's dad receives a phone call telling him that they have recovered a dead body. Of course, it's the same body that Tyra and Landry (Jesse Plemons) pushed into the river in the name of true love. Wrecked with guilt (helped along by a church sermon), Landry wants to confess, but once again Tyra talks him out of it. But all is not lost because Tyra has now come under the radar of Landry's protective dad. Too bad, I liked these two together, despite the whole homicide issue that needs to be worked

Lyla, Religion, and Redemption:
While ministering at a Juvenile Detention Center, Lyla (Minka Kelly) is confronted by a troubled detainee who questions her faith and intentions. Of course Lyla is not about to brush the incident aside and sets out to redeem the junior convict. We can see where this plot line is headed, and if truth be told, Lyla is better of chasing Riggins. Instead, she gets the young man a job at her dad's car dealership. This is a rather predictable plot line, one which would be better served if the young Hispanic youth turned out to be an honor roll student instead of the stereotypical hoodlum with a troubled path and a heart of gold. If I wanted a story about redemption I would go pick up Victor Hugo's Les Miserables.

Street, Riggins, and Shark Blood:
Street (Jason Proctor) has lost it. The wheel chaired bound former QB has taken a load of cash and slipped into Mexico with the intentions of seeing a quack doctor. A doctor who will inject his spine with "shark blood" or some kind of shark related stem cells that are suppose to repair and regenerated the damage spine. For once Riggins (Taylor Kitsch) seems the more level headed of the two, and after trying to bribe "the only honest cop in Mexico" (got to love the stereotypes), and ending up in jail, he tries in vain to persuade Street to change his mind. The highlight of this plot line was the inspiring new rendition of "La Cucaracha" that Street sings at a Mexican Karaoke bar.

Julie and the Swede:
Somebody please smack Jules (Aimee Teegarden) for me. Can this kid act any more spoiled? I mean, even a spoiled teen has a sweet side, right? It would help the show a bit if Julie had a likeable side. So far this is what we know about her, she lies to her parents, shop lifted with Tyra, smarts off at her mom and dad, hangs around bars after curfew, hates her little sister, broke up with the star QB to hang out with the Swede, and is a really, really bad driver. Okay, being a rebellious teen is one thing, but for gosh sake, this is the daughter of two educators, you think she would be grounded without parole. Oh yeah, and she finally realized that the Swede is basically a guy out for a good time and a few beers. Duh. Give me teen angst done by Molly Ringwald any day.

Matt and the Caretaker:
All that moved along on this plot line is that the caretaker from Guatemala went to see Matt's (Zach Gilford) game. I guess she needs to understand the American version of football before this romance gets on track. Word to the caretaker, Matt's underage, but then again, when has that gotten in the way of a plot line here.

Coach Taylor and the Panthers:
Coach Taylor (Kyle Chandler) finally quits the college ranks and goes back home to coach the Dillon Panthers, after Buddy gets the new coach fired only two games into the Dillon season. The new coach's biggest crime apparently was running the ball too much, and not letting Buddy host the pre-season party. So let this be a lesson to all aspiring Texas coaches, when in Rome you must do as the Romans do, and when in Dillon you have to keep Buddy Garrity on your good side.

Panther Football:
Very little action this week, though we learned two basic lessons. One, Smash Williams (Gaius Charles) can't run much with out Tim Riggins blocking for him; Two, the Panthers need to pass the ball. But hey, Coach Taylor is back so there is hope.

Next Week:
We might get down to some football now that Coach Taylor is back in town. In the previews Street goes overboard on a sail ship, and we are left to guess that this is some sort of suicide attempt, or maybe a side affect from the shark blood injection. I guess we are also left to wonder if Dillon can win some games without their star fullback. Perhaps next season we may see a defensive player or two, but for right now, all the drama is in the backfield. As for Tyra, the vixen's days with Landry appear to be numbered, and it's just as well, the kid deserves a better fate then being the fall guy for the Applebee's waitress. Still, it's a shame, I was hoping this plot line had developed differently.
