{mosimage}Serious fans of college football recruiting know the household names out
there in the 2008 class. Guys such as Terrelle Pryor, Julio Jones, Sam
McGuffie, DaQuan Bowers, E.J. Manuel, Will Hill, Arthur Brown. However,
there's a sleeper out there that I believe everyone needs to know about.
I'm talking about a running back from the little known football hotbed state
of Arizona. His name is Covaughn DeBoskie. DeBoskie hails from
Hamilton high school in Chandler, AZ. Hamilton is one of the powerhouses
of football in the state of Arizona, and Covaughn is a huge reason why.
Number 33 for the Hamilton Huskies loves to run in the open field and juke fellows out of their shoes, but he doesn't mind himself a hit here or there either. DeBoskie's open field moves and elusiveness are his most valuable attribute, in my eyes. Especially because he is a little bit of a smaller sized back. He does not shy away from contact, however. Another great thing about DeBoskie that sets him apart from other running backs is his use of his hands. He is great at making catches out of the backfield, a la another west coast guy, Reggie Bush. This makes a west coast offense type of system the one that best suits Covaughn's style of play right away. He'll also bulk up once he gets into college and pack that in with his 4.48 speed so future rivals will need to watch out for a player with an all-around type of game. For this reason, DeBoskie is ranked #8 on the list of Rival's 2008 all-purpose running backs. He is also ranked at #237 in the Rivals 250 and is the 5th best player in the state of Arizona, according to Rivals.com. In his junior campaign, DeBoskie racked up 1,304 rushing yards and 22 TD's and also gained 434 receiving yards on just 12 receptions with another 2 TD's! The freakish athlete has just 84 touches so far in his senior year, but the Huskies are 8-0 and ranked by Rivals.com as the 10th best high school team in the country right now. DeBoskie has also scored a touchdown on 13 of those 84 touches thus far, meaning that he has scored 15% of the time he has touched the ball and definitely has made the most of the limited touches. As of right now, DeBoskie is looking at Alabama, Cal, Arizona State, and Clemson among others. I look for him to end up at Cal where he could really be used to his full potential in a Jeff Tedford type of offense. However, don't be surprised if Saban makes a good push for the talented player at Alabama or if his mind shifts towards Arizona State, provided they can pull of a big win this upcoming weekend versus Cal. Either way, someone is getting an electrifying playmaker by February 6th of 2008.
