{mosimage}Lamaar Thomas ended the fan forum debates last evenning by verbally committing to the Buckeyes. Thomas picked Ohio State over Maryland and Illinois. In the recruiting databases Thomas is listed as a running back and scout.com has Lamaar as the 34th best runningback recruit. Rivals has Thomas as the 32nd best player in the country. Lamaar Thomas preps at Friendly High in Fort washington, Md. He stands at 5'10" and weighs 180 pounds. Ohio State recruited Thomas as a slot receiver. In the recruiting process OSU showed Thomas multiple ways they intended to use him, both in the running and passing games. Thomas is a burner, a track man, with a 10.3 100 meters. With the ball he is an elusive runner with good vision. I have previously written on DeathRattle that Thomas is just another piece to the puzzle for the Buckeyes. The Bucks have verbals from a tailback, olinemen, and big wide receivers. Thomas brings the home run threat to the table from anywhere on the field. It appears to me that Thomas was a puzzle piece the Buckeyes really wanted. To my knowledge there was not a plan b recruit for the Thomas anticipated role. I will now speculate that a major aspect of the successful recruitment of Thomas can be attributed to the previously committed recruits and I would wager one yet uncommitted recruit. You will recall when Thomas did his official visit to Columbus the previously committed recruits also came, including Michael Brewster from Orlando. Relationships have been formed between these players and again, it appears to me these relationships have become very important. Coach Tressel doesn't bring in massive groups for official visits. Recruits are targeted. Who do I believe is the noncommitted potential recruit that helped land Lamaar Thomas? That would be a QB recruit by the name of Terrelle Pryor.
