{mosimage} On Tuesday night and on a national stage the fans of baseball got to see what is generally viewed as one of the signature classless acts in baseball. After the Cleveland Indians had put 7 runs across the plate in the 5th inning, the Red Sox showed some life with three consecutive solo home runs to give them some hope in the game. The final home run was a long blast off the bat of Manny Ramirez who, after hitting the ball, dropped his bat at the plate and admired the flight of the ball with both arms raised above his head. He then proceeded to walk down the first baseline and eventually broke into a slow trot pointing into the Indians dugout. The usual comment is that the player who shows up the pitcher with such antics should look for a pitch in his ear the next time he gets to the plate. But in this case the response is - "no big deal, it's just Manny being Manny".One pundit went so far as to say that it is possible that Manny simply does not have any idea what is going on - what inning it is, what the score is, or even if there were players on base. Manny justs hits the ball. Of course, upon occasion, this can be a disaster for the team when a Manny shot ends up high off the wall in deep center field and he then has to hustle just to get to first base rather than being standing on second. But again it is just Manny being Manny. You simply have to take the good Manny with the bad because there can be so much good. Of course there are always the Manny stories about the pitcher getting ready to throw a pitch and discovering that Manny was not in the outfield. Moments later the door in the outfield fence opens and Manny appears having ducked behind the fence for a call of nature break. Or when the team discovered that Manny's pay checks had not been cashed and they were located in his glove box where he had stashed and forgotten about them. So as we approach and go through game 5 of the ALCS and fans start to get upset about Manny's antics - we just have to remember it is "just Manny being Manny".
