Here are some of the best performers, in my opinion, after another crazy
weekend in college football. This week's
picks were hard to make, but the list must be narrowed down to five plus a
special game ball. - Murray was absolutely sensational and as explosive as ever in a huge game in the Red River Shootout....whoops, I mean "Rivalry." He averaged 7.5 yards per carry on the day with 128 yards rushing on just 17 carries, including a huge 65-yard trot late in the fourth to put the Sooners ahead of the Longhorns.
Dan LeFevour: - When I first saw this guys numbers today, I could barely believe my eyes. LeFevour had put up pretty pedestrian numbers coming into the day and he does play in the MAC, however, today he threw for 360 yards and rushed for 146 more! That's over 500 yards of offense from a single human being if you're doing the math out there. INCREDIBLE. This guy could end up being one of the best quarterbacks to ever come out of the MAC conference, which is truly saying something (remember Leftwich, Pennington, and Roethlisberger?).
Cincinnati Bearcats Defense: - The Bearcats defense forced 4 turnovers in the huge win at Rutgers grabbing up a forced fumble and also snagging 3 interceptions from the arm of Mike Teel. Cincinnati's super fast and super swarming defense now has 16 interceptions on the season.
Rashard Mendenhall: - Mendenhall is proving worthy of his lofty praise coming out of high school. The talented junior running back had almost 200 yards of offense (160 rushing and 33 receiving) on the day and I'm sure he'll be taking the boys up front out for dinner this week too as they were a huge part of the team's success in the win versus Wisconsin (289 total rushing yards).
Chase Daniel: - Most don't think of Mr. Daniel as a dual-threat kind of quarterback. However, he proved his worth today in both getting the ball out of his hands as well as taking it through defenders on his own. Daniel had a career-high 401 yards passing with 2 TD's and also rushed for 2 TD's and 72 yards. The Mizzou Tigers are my favorites to win the Big 12 North title this season and Daniel is a big reason why.
------ A special game ball HAS to be given to the Stanford Cardinals, who, by all intensive purposes may have pulled off the biggest upset in college football history tonight (at least in terms of point-spread). The Cardinal forced John David Booty to throw 4 interceptions and were holding their own on the offensive line against maybe the best defensive line in the entire country. The "Fighting Harbaughs" fought really hard in one of the toughest places to play on the road and gutted out a tough victory, snapping the 35-game home win streak of near invincible USC. Their clutch performance on two key fourth downs in the winning drive were a defining moment for years to come in the program's growth. The courage and concentration shown by Mark Bradford on the phenomenal game-winning catch with :48 seconds left in the game cannot be denied. Congratulations on a job well done Stanford! -----
