{mosimage} This wild weekend started out on Thursday, when South Florida went up against the 5th ranked team in the County, West Virginia. When it was all said and done USF had pulled off their biggest upset 21 to 13. Then on Saturday, the number 3 team in the county goes into their first conference game against opponents who won only 2 games last season and were 2-2 this season and what happens? A last second field goal and Oklahoma looses. In the same conference the number 6 team is facing another fellow "north weak sister" and get totally BLOWN out of their OWN stadium 41-21 (Texas loosing to Kansas State). Still not finished "Mr. Upset moves down to Gainesville to aid another unranked team, Auburn, defeat the defending national champion Florida on another one of those "last second" field goals, this one after Urban Meyer calls a time out right after the Auburn kicker had just kicked it through the uprights the first time. Oh yea and finally Rutgers at number 10 is facing a Maryland squad, also 2-2 with no big plans and the Scarlet Knights go down 34-24 in their own back yard. Did it stop there, no way?Number 13 Clemson goes down to Georgia Tech, who had been a disappointment so far this year. Now for final good measure Alabama and Penn State both lost. Barely escaping from the clutches of evil were the number 1 and 2 ranked teams USC and LSU, the former winning only by a field goal and LSU surviving a gritty, game Tulane squad before winning handily 34 to 9. So when Saturday night was finished 5 of the top 10 squads had tasted defeat for the first time along with 3 more out of the top 25. Were these all upsets? As Lloyd's was quick to point out, with the playing field fairly level at 85 scholarships each, probably not, I would say that the 2 big 12 loses were, No way does anyone outside of Bolder believe that the Buffaloes have a chance to stay in the game let along win the way the Sooners have played this season. Same thing for Kansas State in Austin, although the later was easier to understand giving the previous close games that the Longhorns have played so far and their players attempt at mimicking the Cincinnati Bengals for legal troubles not as much as Oklahoma's. Rutgers losing at home to Maryland was a pretty big surprise also. The 2 Big 12 South losing gives an interesting meaning in their showdown game this Saturday in Dallas and brought me down to earth after my boasting of how well I had predicted things in the Big 12 so far this year. Also what does it do to the Southeastern Conference's marquee match-up with LSU facing Florida, as both go into it with not as much at stake, although it is pretty much a "must win" game for Florida, as a loss would drop them 2 games behind the Tigers after just 2 conference games, WOW, who was predicting that back in August during the 2-a-day practices. I will say this, without question the SEC is by far the strongest and toughest conference in College Football, but the Big 12 may no be that far behind in regards to the equality of their teams from top to bottom. At least there is one thing that we can count on this season; it's a Norte Dame loss. The Irish's next 3 games are at UCLA, followed by back-to-back home games against Boston College and USC. The records of all three teams are a combined 13-1. Games that will give the Irish just more great chances at securing their place at the top of my Bottom 5.
