{mosimage} Again my typical caveat-I don't like Notre Dame, nor Charlie Weis. Per what we are reading on Rivals, Olineman Chris Stewart has left the Notre Dame football team. The pertinent history is: 1. I believe it was after spring ball, QB Fraser transferred. Out of high school Fraser was a 4 star recruit. 2. First game starting QB Demetrius Jones quit the team. 3. TE Konrad Reuland has left the team this week. Out of high school Reuland was a 5 star recruit, the #2 ranked TE nationally. 4. Now it is being reported OLineman Chris Stewart has left the team. Stewart was a 4 star recruit. None of these players were starters, except Jones who started the Georgia Tech game. So, I pose the question: Is this a case of the rats jumping ship, or something else. Players transferring happens all the time. I don't recollect players leaving their programs during the season. Again, these players were not starting. I know in the case of Reuland he was down the depth chart, and ND has 2 big time TE recruits pledged for the 2008 recruiting class. I have written before for DeathRattle my opinion that Jones was screwed by Charlie Weis. Therefore, I thought he was wise to transfer, although he could have gone about it better. The truth of the matter is I do not know the answer to my posed question. What is the saying? Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. Yes, I have an opinion. Happy people don't transfer. Adversity can bind a team, or in the face of adversity, a team can implode. Do I think Notre Dame is imploding-no. Do I believe Charlie Weis is liked or respected by all his players-no. For those of you who do not know. After the Michigan loss Charlie Weis reverted to physical practices, the offensive ones against the defensive ones. He called this bootcamp. To a lesser degree ND did the same this week. Weis said he was challenging the players. To me, a couple of players have decided screw you Charlie, we don't like you and on to greener pastures. Do I think an implosion is possible-yes. Obviously a few victories would help the situation. Absent victories, I will be watching to see if additional players bail, and certainly will be watching to see if the recruiting class hangs tough. The big Defensive tackle recruit Omar Hunter is reporting that USC has just offered. Hunter has said he is solid to the Irish, but there is a long way to go to signing day for Hunter and the rest of the recruits. Time will tell. Again, just another story line that makes being a college fan so interesting. PS Go Boilermakers!
