Brandon Harris,
the 5-foot-10, 175-pound four-star cornerback from Booker T. Washington
High School in Miami, Fla., took his first official visit last weekend
(Sept. 15) to Florida.
"It was great," Harris said of the trip. "I love the academics they
have and the players and coaches are very disciplined. They really work
hard to win and the coaches prepare them well. I loved being able to
see how they got ready for the game (against Tennessee).
"The team is very close and they all hang out together before the game.
The night before the game we all got together in the conference room of
the hotel and watched Shooter. They talked about how it was like them because they were hunting Tennessee.
"I was never really given an actually player host because I was always
with a group of guys," he said. "That's how they do it there. They all
hang out together."
Harris, ranked the No. 10 cornerback in the country by Scout.com, still denies a leader but favors Florida, Miami, LSU, Rutgers, Oklahoma and Central Florida. He mentioned the schools in this order and has offers from all of them (30 total).
"I still haven't really narrowed it down," Harris said. "I have a great
relationship with all these coaches and these are the six schools that
are recruiting me the most. I want to have a few more visits set up by
the end of the month and I won't make a decision until I take all my
trips."
Last time we spoke with Harris he also mentioned Florida State and Ohio State
in his top five and says he hasn't eliminated either the Seminoles or
Buckeyes. "I still like them," he said. "I'm just hearing from the
other six more."
As impressive as the Gators have been this season, Harris admits it's
tough picking a school that's impressed him the most. "Florida is
killing people," he said. "But LSU, Oklahoma and Rutgers are playing
really well too.
"I think whoever wins between Florida and LSU will probably win it all.
LSU is a great team and I like how they always come ready to play. They
seem to love pressure.
"Oklahoma is having a great season too and I like their tradition," Harris pointed out.
The only two campuses that Harris has actually been to are the Gators
and 'Canes. "The new coaches at Miami are doing pretty good," he said.
"It's gonna take time and I don't think they are given enough credit.
They aren't doing as bad as some people say they are."
While it's tough for Harris to choose a favorite, he admits that
Central Florida takes the cake for biggest surprise. "They had a great
upset victory over North Carolina State and they had a chance to beat Texas too," he said. "They are definitely an up-and-coming team."
Booker T. Washington is also off to a good start with a 2-0 record.
Harris has caught six balls for 119 yards and one touchdown.
Defensively, he has 11 tackles and one interception.
He reports a 3.6 core GPA, an 880 SAT and a 20 ACT.
