Dennis Dixon is a difference maker Print E-mail

The Ducks are led by quarterback Dennis Dixon. Dixon, a Senior, can run as well as he can pass. While he has not received the Heisman hype that fellow Duck Joey Harrington once had, this kid is still a legit Heisman candidate this year. At 6-4, 205lbs, and with a time of 4.5 in the 40, Dixon's star is on the rise in the eyes of NFL scouts. Dennis has sparkled in both of the Duck's victory this year, accounting for over 270 total yards against Houston, and 368 total yards against Michigan.

In the Houston game Dixon showed his break away speed with an 80 yard run for a touchdown. The following week against Michigan, his arm accounted for three touchdowns. Yet this is not a one dimension offense. The Ducks can also bring it with running backs Jeremiah Johnson, and Jonathon Stewart as well. Johnson is a 5-9 210 lbs tailback who is averaging close to 7 yards a carry. Stewart (5-11, 230 lbs) had 111 yards rushing against Michigan. Look for both of these talented runners to continue their early season success this year. The receiving corp is also well stocked, with 6-5, 240 lbs, Jaison Williams leading the way. Williams is a projected first or second pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, who had a huge season for the Ducks last year hauling in 68 passes for 984 yards. Jaison looked sharp in spring workouts, and showcased his talents against Michigan as well, catching four passes for 73 yards and a score. With such talent on board it's highly unlikely that the Oregon Ducks will suffer another 7-6 season like they did in 2006. More likely, this team is set to return to the loftier status they were at in 2005, when they finished 10-2.

UPDATE: In the Ducks 55 to 31 win over Stanford (Sept. 23, 2007), Dennis Dixon passed for 367 yards and 4 TDs, on 27 out of 36 passing. He also ran in for a score. Stewart added 160 yards on 19 carries, with a TD.
