{mosimage}I will again prove to you that I am not a real journalist, because I
will admit my prejudice up front. I do not, nor ever have, liked the
Irish.
Now that I have that out of the way, what the Hell was that I saw yesterday in Southbend? I don't need to tell you about the game, because it was not a game. Georgia Tech kicked butt from the gitgo.
My question, or issue, is this. Since Charlie came from the Patriots to the Irish I have heard things such as football genius, or like, don't give Charlie time to prepare for a single game. Well Charlie had plenty of time to prepare for yesterday's game. He played the who will start at QB. He started a running quarterback. Yea, I saw a wrinkle for Jones, but that was it. There was probably more of plan A I didn't notice, and if plan B was there, I sure as hell missed it. Let me explain what I am getting at. Two years ago I got to wait for a bowl game hearing how much trouble OSU was in because Charlie had so much time to prepare his team. OSU kicked ND's butt. Saw nothing special from a coaching standpoint. Year ago, preseason, we heard the Heisman was Brady Quinns. ND opened against Georgia Tech and although ND won, Brady used that performance a springboard to lose the Heisman. Go then to last years bowl game vs. LSU. Again Charlie has a lot of time to prepare and, ND gets their butts kicked again. Meanwhile, I go to the Debacle in the Desert and see the coaching job Urban, no I don't want to coach ND, put on the Buckeyes. Again I ask-Where is the evidence of the genius of Charlie? Maybe we will see it in the next two weeks. God knows we didn't see it yesterday. My theory re the quaterbacks is as follows. Based upon what I saw yesterday, ND is going to take some early season lumps. The two upperclassmen will continue to see the field if they don't get kilt. Clausen will continue to get mop up or more time and when the schedule becomes easier, he will start. That would be my guess.
