{mosimage}Here are the top 10 games on a relatively weak opening slate of college football action.
Most of the best games are being played on the second week in the NCAA, but a few brave souls have decided to schedule some decent games in their opening weeks despite the fear of coming out rusty: 10. Arizona at BYU- The Wildcats' rebuilding program has hit a snag due to a lack of offensive firepower. Now they draw one of the West's toughest out-of-conference mid-major-type programs in the Cougars and desperately need a win or Arizona fans will be made even more restless before Pac-10 play. 9. Nevada at Nebraska- Nebraska is loading up for a run at the Big 12 North title and perhaps more, but first they have to contend with a tricky Wolfpack team that runs the unique "Pistol" formation and could keep things close. 8. Utah at Oregon State- The Beavers could surprise and make a run at the top of the Pac-10 but first they have to get by the always-dangerous and always-scrappy Utes. 7. Wake Forest at Boston College- Last year's "other" cinderella, the Demon Deacons, travel to Boston College in a tough ACC opener that should tell whether they have a chance to compete for another league title or not. 6. Washington State at Wisconsin- The Badgers have a great defense that will keep them in every game, but Washington State provides a solid challenge with their vertical passing game. Wisconsin had better no overlook the Cougars. 5. Missouri at Illinois- Both teams have stockpiled some nice talent and have questionable game day coaches. Illinois might be too young to win this game but it should be pretty close throughout and features some talented playmakers like Juice Williams and Chase Daniel. 4. Florida State at Clemson- Another year, another Bowden bowl, but will we see another FSU collapse? Jimbo Fisher will try to revive a staggering FSU offense. Meanwhile, check out Clemon star running back C.J. Spiller, a Florida kid with incredible speed. 3. Georgia Tech at Notre Dame- Everybody loves (or in most cases, loves to hate) Notre Dame, and Georgia Tech's swarming defense will provide a great first test for them in a season of uncertainty. Notre Dame's QB situation is well worth keeping an eye on. It could be their downfall this year. 2. Oklahoma State at Georgia- OSU has a dynamic offense led by potential mega-star WR Adarius Bowman but they will need to play awfully well to win Between the Hedges. They certainly are capable of doing it, however. 1. Tennessee at California- Most observers felt the Golden Bears were overwhelmed by the atmosphere of Neyland Stadium last year, and they came undone in a hurry. Pac-10 teams typically fare well at home against big-time out-of-conference opponents but don't do so well on the road. This time, Cal is the favorite, now they have to play like it.
