{mosimage}Which underrated players can help you win your fantasy league this year?
{mosimage}Every season there are a handful of guys who slip through the cracks and propel otherwise good fantasy teams to greatness. If you want to win your fantasy league this year, be sure to snag at least a few of these guys. They are the depth players that can be the difference between a first round playoff defeat and a league championship. 1. Deuce McAllister - Nobody has fallen off the face of the fantasy football earth like Deuce McAllister. Deuce put up 1,200 total yards and 10 TDs in his first year back from major knee surgery, but it has apparently gone unnoticed. The Saints offense is among the best in the NFL, and Deuce is an integral part. Expect him to at least match his ’06 production. Reggie Bush has the higher ceiling, but Deuce is the man around the goal line and he averaged almost 20 touches a game despite splitting time with the NFLs most hyped back. Deuce is a legit starter on most fantasy teams, but he tends to stick around far too long in drafts. Use this to your advantage. I snap him up whenever possible, usually in the 6th round or so. Nothing makes you sleep better as a fantasy owner than superior depth at the running back position, and Deuce is the #1 option as a "sleeper" RB. 2. Donald Driver - Over the past 3 seasons as Brett Favre's favorite target, Driver has averaged over 1,200 yards and 7 TDs. Still, Driver has managed to avoid the fantasy limelight despite being one of the position's most consistent threats. 1,200 yards and 7 TDs is nothing to scoff at, and Driver should be among the top 10 receivers chosen in any draft. Despite his track record, speed, and hands, Driver falls in almost every draft. If you can get Driver as your #2 receiving option, you are in excellent shape at the position. Draft Driver and sleep easy. He's the poor man's Marvin Harrison, just 4 rounds later. 3. Thomas Jones - Jones is the 20th rated running back, but he should easily be higher. He has averaged 1,150 yards rushing and 7 TDs the last three years, providing consistency and dependability at a position where those two qualities are at a premium. He is being taken even lower than his ranking and is almost always available in the 6th or 7th rounds. Jones should be a fantasy starter in most leagues, but you can get him as a 3rd back and reap the rewards of depth at fantasy's most important position. Jones is especially important if you have taken a high risk back as one of your top 2 (Westbrook, Maroney, McGahee, Jones-Drew, Benson). 4. Ladell Betts - Betts is probably my favorite fantasy sleeper of '07. Clinton Portis still has the skills and is young enough to return to being an elite back, but when he got injured last year it was Betts who stepped up. He averaged over 120 yards rushing per game in the final 6 weeks of the season, and he is more than ready to take over in Washington if Portis goes down again. Take Betts as a 4th RB late (10th round or later) and hang onto him unless you desperately need to drop him. It could pay huge dividends. This is arguably the lowest risk, highest payout pick in fantasy this season.
5. Joey Galloway - Galloway had a very good season in 2006 despite the Buccaneer's quarterbacking carousel and general offensive ineptitude. Despite his 1,000+ yards and 7 TDs last year, he is ranked as the 25th best WR. Expect similar production this year. While 25th may not seem very low, he continually is selected well below his overall ranking. I've been able to get him on several teams as a 4th wideout. Wide receiver is one of the more inconsistent positions in fantasy, so if you can get a 1,000 yard receiver as a backup, you're doing pretty well. He is easily good enough to start on most fantasy teams. If you can slot him in as a 3rd or 4th receiver, he can take your fantasy squad to the next level.Honorable Mention: Terry Glenn, Cadillac Williams, Chester Taylor, Alge Crumpler, Philip Rivers, DeAngelo Williams, Donte' Stallworth
