The scene of many great moments... The scene of many great moments in NCAA Football and NFL Football will lose its only anchor tenant after this season. University of Miami President Donna Shalala announced that this will be the last year the Hurricanes will play in the Orange Bowl. The Hurricanes are the only anchor tenant. Miami will be moving their home games to Dolphin Stadium. A 25 year lease has been signed. Shalala called this decision by the University trustees, "painful and sad". Per the Associated Press, here are some of the historic Orange Bowl highlights: Jan. 12, 1969 Joe Namath delivers on his guarantee as the New York Jets pull off a stunning 16-7 win over the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III. Nov. 23, 1984 Hail Flutie. Doug Flutie throws his hail mary to Gerald Phelan leading Boston College over Miami. Dec. 2, 1985 The Dolphins beat the Chicago Bears denying Ditka's team a perfect season, protecting the 1972 Dolphins record. Oct. 3, 1992 "Wide Right II" takes place as the Hurricanes beat Florida State. Oct. 14, 2006 The Hurricanes play Florida International for the first time. The third quarter sees a brawl between the teams that result in sanctions being handed out to 31 players. Some would say a fitting end.... {youtube}gR4l0vMSrlc{/youtube}
