Getting fall camp information.... {mosimage} Getting fall camp information from a Jim Tressel fall camp is probably harder than getting info concerning troop movements in and around Bagdad, but I will give it a try. Saturday was the jersey scrimmage. The offense won, but what that means I have no clue other than the O will be wearing scarlet at practices. From what I can gleem we have no QB controversy. Todd Boeckman is the QB. I suspect he is the QB not because he has dazzled people in fall camp, but that he is the QB Coach Tressel believes can put the team into the correct formations and plays without screwing up. We have also heard, without confirmation, that Steve Rehring is at least out of the not in shape doghouse far enough to be working with the offensive line starters. I guess the surprise of the fallcamp for many, including us, is that Dane Sanzenbacher is presently the #3 receiver. We don't really see this as a good thing. Ray Small, as we have said before, needs to get healthy. On top of health, we believe he needs the work of fall camp. Re his health we have heard day to day, to missing game one. Besides Small, Dane being #3 means other upperclassmen are not stepping up. Dukes for one-if he doesn't make his move this year, the ship may sail without him. Chris Wells did not play in the scrimmage Saturday because of an ankle. Every college team has players they can not lose, and we believe Chris Wells to absolutely be one of those players. The ankle is being downplayed, but...... By the way, if we had our way Chris would have carried the ball about two times in the scrimmage and we would have called it a day for him. No word that any other tailback shone Saturday. We have heard a rumor that Saine is ahead of Mo Wells as the #2, but who knows? We have also heard that Eugene Clifford is our nickel back. 1. Don't know if it is true. 2. Not really surprised if it is true. 3. Don't know what this means, if anything, regarding the upperclassmen who could have been thrust into that position. Due to the nature of the game, we think a nickel back with coverage skills is important along with the ability to stick someone. There has been alot of talk that this is a spot that some special packages will be in place. We think it will be interesting to see how and with whom this spot evolves thru the year. We like coverage skills. Also, when the nickel is out there, which linebacker is sitting? We guess that linebacker will be Grant, and if so, there will be one playmaker off the field. Again, we think this will be an interesting position to watch evolve. With our knowledge limited, we would certainly welcome any one who actually knows something to share their thoughts.
