10 Predictions for the 2007 Browns Print E-mail

{mosimage}Here are 10 things that I believe will come true for the Browns this season. 1. Brady Quinn will be the starter by midseason as Charlie Frye continues to be completely average and Derek Anderson makes it clear he isn't ready to start. Browns fans will clamor for Quinn early, and it will force Romeo Crennel's hand.

2. Quinn will get rocked in the second half of the season and leave Cleveland fans wondering if he is the man to lead this team for the next decade.

{mosimage} 3. Kamerion Wimbley will be a household name, racking up at least 12 sacks, finishing in the top 5 in the AFC in the statistic.

4. Eric Wright will start at cornerback by the end of the season, making the other 31 NFL teams sorry they passed on him in the draft.

5. Kellen Winslow will again lead all tight ends in catches, but he will fail to reach the 1,000 yard mark due to unimaginative playcalling and an unwillingness to send him vertically up the field.

6. Joe Thomas will struggle with the AFC's elite pass rushers early on, but he will keep the starting job and justify his status as the #3 draft pick in the draft.

7. Sean Jones will be among the top safeties in the AFC, but he will not get Pro Bowl consideration because he plays for the Browns.

8. Jamal Lewis will be terrible and fans will clamor for a new starting running back, which the Browns will be unable to draft due to their lack of a first round pick.

9. Chaun Thompson will start at left outside linebacker and play well enough to keep the starting job and make people wonder why the Browns spent so much money on Willie McGinest, benchwarmer.

10. The Browns will finish the season 6-10 with one victory each over rivals Cincinnati and Pittsburgh. They will finish last in the AFC North, giving the Dallas Cowboys a top 10 pick in the '08 draft.

Onearmedbandit: Kindof hard for me to root for the Browns these days with Winslow and now Quinn. Has the negative pub died down re Quinn charging for autographs while he was still unsigned? Are Browns fans liking Quinn?

As soon as Quinn led the offense down the field for a TD against the Lions 34th string defense in the last preseason game, all negative press (charging for autograph and the holdout) went out the window. As with any town that hasn't seen a winner in decades, the people of Cleveland are willing to forgive and forget quickly if Quinn shows that he has what it takes to erase a decade of AFC cellar dwelling. People were chanting Brady's name against the Lions. I don't think people were angry about the fact that he had the audacity to hold out and charge for his autograph. Their anger was really just selfish because they believe in this kid and think he can be everything Tim Couch wasn't. They just wanted him on the field. Now they will be clamoring for him to start the regular season, justified or not.

Since it would be very difficult for me to root for Quinn, I'm glad I got over my Browns jones a long time ago.
