For an hour and a half, the Husker faithful had a chance Saturday to mingle and meet their hero's up close and personal, as the annual Fan Day at Memorial Stadium was held on August 18, 2007. Once again, the Greatest Fans in College Athletics were allowed to meet the 2007 Huskers in this fun for all events. The Husker Nation faithful were also invited to tour the Tom and Nancy Osborne Athletic Complex and attend the Red-White scrimmages for both the soccer and volleyball teams. Prior to meeting the public, players mingled with their family and had the opportunity to meet groups of Special Olympics athletes from around the state of Nebraska. All of the players and coaches had a chance to chat with the fans while signing autographs and posing for pictures. For the team, the day began with individual and group photos, including the 2007 team photo. I will try to get some pictures and post them later. Fans also had the chance to tour the new training facilities, including the rare chance to actually visit the football team locker room. Even after Fan day concluded, many players and coaches stayed around chatting with fans and signing more autographs and posing for pictures. According to estimates, there were more than 7,000 people in attendance. There were also Red-White scrimmages held for both the volleyball and soccer teams, which were free to attend.

The greatest fans in college athletics...lol. Highly debatable topic right there... but I have to give Nebraska fans alot of credit, over 7,000 fans for a fan day shows some serious fan support. I remember when Nebraska had over 60,000 fans pack the stands for their spring game when Bill Callahan first arrived..very impressive. They were then outmatched when Alabama's fans packed their stadium for their spring game this past spring to get their first glimpse of Nick Saban. I enjoy your updates of the Huskers and they are a cheer that I like to root for, Nebraska has had some of my favorite college football quarterbacks of all-time, the likes of Tommie Frazier and Eric Crouch ran the option better than just about anybody in the history of the game of football. Simply put, it was a thing of beauty. |
