{mosimage}Which NFL players are feeling the pressure to perform well in 2007?
Donovan McNabb – Philadelphia Eagles
McNabb hasn’t finished a full season in three years. So what did head Coach Andy Reid and the Eagles do? They drafted Kevin Kolb out of the University of Houston in the 2nd round of the 2007 NFL Draft as an insurance policy. The front office must feel pretty good about Kolb to draft him that high in the draft. If Donovan McNabb, the face of the Eagles’ franchise, goes down with another injury, his face may not be visible in 2008. Jake Delhomme – Carolina Panthers Delhomme’s situation in Carolina is similar to McNabb’s in Philly. The difference is that the Panthers brought in a QB for ineffective play on the field and not injury. David Carr was booted out of Houston and is now a reliable insurance policy for Carolina if Delhomme decides to go on anther interception frenzy in 2007. Mario Williams – Houston Texans Expected to become a dominant pass rusher for the Houston Texans, Mario Williams only produced 4.5 sacks last season as a rookie. The Texans are hoping that he can become more dominant this year and beyond and prove to the fans and the media that they made the right choice drafting him over Vince Young and Reggie Bush. Jamaal Lewis – Cleveland Browns Lewis, once one the most dominant rushers in the NFL, saw his production slip dramatically after spending time in prison for violating the NFL’s drug policy in 2005. Now a Cleveland Brown, Lewis looks to return to form and give Cleveland a running game that has lacked for awhile. However, there aren’t too many people who believe Lewis can be the same runner who rushed for over 2,000 yards in 2003, including myself. Nate Clements – San Francisco 49ers When a player gets signed for an $80 Million/8 Year deal, they will be expected to do the impossible by fans, the media, and even the coaching staff. Cornerback Nate Clements was good in Buffalo, but for that much money he better be the best DB in the NFL after the 2007 season ends. {mosimage} Rex Grossman – Chicago Bears Poor Rex, he just can’t catch a break from the media and the NFL fans. Never mind that he led the Bears to their first Super Bowl since 1985. Forget about the fact that last season was his first full season as an NFL quarterback. The only thing people care about is results and the only way for Grossman to get the gorilla off his back is to play better. Don’t forget that Brian Griese is still the back-up in Chicago. Cedric Benson – Chicago Bears Drafted fourth overall by the Bears in 2005, Cedric Benson will get his first shot as the premier runner in Chicago. His production was decent when he shared the load with Thomas Jones, but now he will have the responsibility of taking some of the heat off of Rex Grossman.
