As of now...
As of now, per Teddy Greenstein, ChicagoTribune.com, the bastards, ie the Big Ten, have no deal with Comcast or with Time Warner. Per Greenstein little, if any, progress has been made in negotiations. I read this article this morning after surfing the net last night and having my hopes raised. Some forum posters have a degree of accuracy in what they post. One of those posters was saying that Comcast and the BTN have cut a deal. What was not clear in the post was whether his was only referencing non Big Ten states or the entire deal. His claim was that the BTN had backed off their demand for inclusion in the basic cable package and that it would be offered on a Comcast sports tier. That would be fine with me in South Florida, so I went to bed with a smile on my face. Now this morning I read there is no deal. Shit! Greenstein does say Comcast officials will meet with Midwest reporters and editors this week to discuss the situation. I still can't get over the idea that my team plays a dozen games a year and my conference as of 8/15/07 is denying me the opportunity to see x number of those games. Thanks bunches. The BTN has released their basketball schedule and it includes 64 regular season games, along with a couple of Big Ten tournament games. Again, for me, let Comcast put this on a sports tier and I will pay. Doesn't it thrill you that bean counters on each side of this equation are in control of whether or not you get to watch your team play some ball?

They are taking the game away from people with less money. Now, those people will be going to bars and spending money anyways. Screw the Big Ten. Screw Comcast. They F'ing suck I expect every Big Ten Coach to raise hell or they can go F' themselves. I've paid for Gameplan the last couple of years. Which, every year manages to allow me to still miss some of the games I look forward to most. Now, I'm getting ready to move and don't see where I can go satellite anytime soon. Gameplan would not do me much good anyways because I'm a huge Big Ten fan. This Big Ten Network is not revolutionary, as I read Ohio State Head Coach Jim Tressel allude to, its f'ing stupid. It's a way to segment the games and get a few million extra bucks. Just show me the damn games. I swear I'll buy the team clothes. I swear I'll go to some games. I will write about the games and promote your sport religiously....ok, I would do that anyways. Just let me watch the games. This crap sucks and everyone involved sucks too. |

What's next, pay-per-view Super Bowl? This is ridiculous. There are 3,000 television channels and now we need another one. Direct TV and the NFL Network started this whole trend of supplemental programming forcing people to pay for games that they never had to pay for previously. This is all under the guise of offering more programming, but how many games can a person watch at one time. The answer is 2. Just ask Lloyds we did it every Saturday for several years. All kidding aside, we're headed to a day where each team has it's own channel on direct tv and we'll all be forced to choose which games we want to watch at the beginning of the season. This is nothing more that biting the hand that feeds, Socialist bastards! |
