{mosimage}Week number 2 Practice began just like week number 1 ended, with both Marlon Lucky and Cody Glenn watching on the sidelines. Callahan says that Lucky could be back at practice as early as tomorrow (Tuesday), depending on the test results if he has a concussion or not (say what?).
Callahan was unsure of the status of Glenn (as we all are beginning to be), who was reported to be nursing a hamstring. As they say though, all dark clouds do have a silver lining and this one is that with the veterans out the freshman are getting in the reps, and that can do nothing but help farther on as the season progresses. Once again standing out at practice was LaPorte Texas native Quentin Castille, the behemoth of a tailback at 6-foot-1 and 245 pounds with 4.5, 40 yard dash speed. He drew ohhs and ahhs from onlookers Monday afternoon as he made a nice inside cut on a stretch play, broke into the open field and ran over safety Rickey Thenarse, according to coaches and players. Callahan said: “Whatever he needs to do, he can do it. He’s got skills. It’s going to be exciting to watch him develop over the next four and five years. I think he’s a big-time back. He has a lot of talent and a lot of want-to.” Today’s 2-and-a half hour long practice consisted of a lot of situational work such as goal-line offensive, red-zone and the nickel and substitution. This was the Husker’s fourth day practicing in full pads, which is the most contact Callahan’s teams have had this early in fall practice. Go GBR!

| Good stuff Bugeatersteve... appreciate the report. I'm excited to watch the Huskers this year. Marlon Lucky is a great tailback and it will be nice to see him finally get the amount of carries he deserves. Sam Keller will be fun to watch as well! I'm over here in Ohio, with Frank Solich running the ship for the Bobcats. I always love talking to him about his Nebraska days and Tommie Frazier. He was the greatest option quarterback in the history of football, in my opinion. Man was he fun to watch. One of my favorite players ever. | |

It's certainly been an interesting transition for Nebraska since the Frank Solich days. He was another coach where I thought he was let go too soon (from my outside vantage point). He, along with Ty Willingham at ND and Ron Zook at UF. All 3 programs, you could argue, are better off for the changes. Nebraska is still on the fence, but this could be their year to bust out of what I consider a weaker than normal Big 12. Ohio got all they could hope for (save one incident) in Solich. I still think coaches are let go too soon but I guess it's all a game of chess, politics. |
