Highlighting the Must-See Games of the 2007 NFL Season.
Every year, there are a handful of NFL games that stand out on the schedule before the season even begins. I know that as the season progresses, there will be new games that will become intriguing, maybe even become a national televised game. However, these are the games that caught my eye as soon as the schedule was released.
New Orleans Saints vs. Indianapolis Colts (Week 1, Thursday; September 6)
{mosimage}The Saints were the true Cinderella team of 2006, making it all the way to the NFC Championship game. The addition Drew Brees and rookie sensation Reggie Bush has made this team a contender in this upcoming season. However, their first task is not an easy one. They must travel to Indianapolis for the home opener against the Colts. Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, and Reggie Wayne are ready to defend their Super Bowl title this season at all cost. This is definitely the type of game to open up the 2007 NFL Season.
San Diego Chargers vs. New England Patriots (Week 2, Sunday; September 16)
It’s the AFC Divisional Playoff rematch. Remember that game? It was supposed to be another victory for the Chargers on their way to the Super Bowl, but Tom Brady and company had other plans. At the end of the game, LaDainian Tomlinson lost his cool when he saw Patriots players celebrating on the Chargers logo at midfield. Now the Bolts have a chance to return the favor when the travel to Gillette Stadium Sunday night.
Seattle Seahawks vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (Week 5, Sunday; October 7)
It will be interesting to see how the participants of Super Bowl XLI bounce back from disappointing 2006 seasons. The Steelers look to maintain their gritty attitude on defense under new head coach Mike Tomlin while the Seahawks hope the Matt Hasselbeck and Shaun Alexander can get thru a season healthy. That will be pretty tough going up against an aggressive Steeler defense in week five.
New England Patriots vs. Dallas Cowboys (Week 6, Sunday; October 14)
Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Tom Brady, and Tony Romo all on the same field make an interesting football game. We all know that T.O and Moss will be trying to outdo one another on National television while Brady and Romo try to fend off an aggressive defense.
Baltimore Ravens vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (Week 9, Monday; November 5)
There’s only one thing that comes to mind when these two get together, black and blue. The Ravens hate the Steelers and the Steelers hate the Ravens. On Monday night, the intensity level will increase and the bodies will hit the floor. I’ll definitely be tuning in.
Indianapolis Colts vs. Baltimore Ravens (Week 14, Sunday; December 9)
Last year in the AFC Divisional Playoffs, the Colts held the Ravens to two field goals as they kicked five of their own to advance to the Championship game. It was embarrassing for the Ravens to lose that way on their own field and should only have revenge on their minds.
New Orleans Saints vs. Chicago Bears (Week 17, Sunday; December 30)
The NFC Championship was close at the end of the 3rd quarter until the Bears decided to end all hopes for the Saints. Both teams will face off in the last week of the season for possibly a playoff spot or home field advantage in the playoffs. I almost forgot to mention that the game is in Chicago again, which may mean some good old fashion bad weather.
What Else to Watch this Season
NFC East
Quarterbacks Tony Romo, Donovan McNabb, Jason Campbell, and Eli Manning will all have something to prove this season. They belong to the “black and blue” division of the NFL where each team has a legitimate shot at the divisional title.
Michael Vick and the Atlanta Falcons
My guess is that Vick doesn’t play at all this season. He may even end up in prison. For the Falcons, they have to rely on Joey Harrington who hasn’t done anything noteworthy in his career so far. This dog fighting scandal will not go away this season, making it a huge distraction for Atlanta
Rookie Watch
How will players like Jamarcus Russell and Brady Quinn impact their teams as the signal callers? Will Calvin Johnson become a premiere wide receiver in his first season? Can Adrian Peterson give the Vikings the running game they desperately need? How many alligator arms will we see from receivers when they play against LaRon Landry up in Washington? Stay tuned boys and girls, stay tuned.
Vince Young’s Progression
Last season, he almost led the Titans to a playoff berth with an 8-8 record. This year, Vince Young and the Titans expect a playoff berth and hopefully much more. Will Young improve more in 2007 or will he suffer a sophomore slump?
