Well it seems that the coach, immediately upon his dismissal, simply packed up his squad of players (can I use the term students?) and went to Stoneridge Prep. Which was one of the schools that I mentioned in my first paragraph that replaced the team that left to go to Calvary Christian Prep. Now it seems that Concordia Prep. By closing its doors has left many of the foreign players with no place to live, no food, leaving the citizens of Ladysmith to care for them. Now I am sure that many of you may be wondering about the attendance of these students and their grades, well as best I can tell, in some of the situations the players did not attend classes, especially considering that many of the “schools” spent the better part of the season traveling around the county, although their coach insists that they all did their studies as required. Which brings up another item, What about after they “graduate” from these Prep schools and go on to their goal of attending college. Well it appears that the NCAA regulations have some part in this also. It appears that in 2003 the NCAA created a sliding scale where the higher a students GPA (Grade Point Average) is; the lower the SAT (Standard Aptitude Test) needs to be. So that basically if an individual has a GPA of say 3.7, they don’t even have to answer a single question on the SAT correctly to get into college. In the end, it seems to boil down to who is responsible for this situation, is it the high school type institutions, where they seem to accept any offer that will bring the almighty dollar into their pocketbooks, or is it at the state or local level, where laws may be required in order to establish a school to begin with, or is it with the NCAA, that seems to have very lax standard requirements in order to be accepted by a member institution. Or maybe this problem needs to be looked at, at the federal level for more control. In any event it is definitely a problem that needs to be fixed as soon as possible.
