Seems that a school named Concordia Prep was opened in Ladysmith last fall, but recently closed their doors. Here’s something interesting about Concordia Prep. It seems that their school's headmaster, or principal was Dean Keagy, who was also the school's basketball coach. That would be like your district administrator being your coach, not something you normally see. Also, director of business operations Christian Pate was the school's athletic director. Yes, Concordia had an A.D. despite the fact that they had just one sport-boys' basketball. They had some boys coming in, though, so they managed to put together a schedule. Some games against Wisconsin teams along with a tournament in Florida and another in Puerto Rico. Remember my reference to the Harlem Globetrotters previously? Well there you go. Also, and I know this is going to be hard to believe, but it seems that four of the star players on Concordia Prep, played this past summer on an AAU team in Florida and two of them played for that now defunct school Florida Prep. What was that song, “if it weren’t for bad luck, I’d have no luck at all”, seems to follow these boys around. Doesn’t it seem amazing that these kids/players wind up at a small town school? Think it’s all just a coincidence? Not when you add in the name of Steve Rodriguez. Seems that Rodriguez, Pate, and Keagy started Concordia Prep. Rodriguez was a coach for the Miami Tropics, which was that AAU team. Rodriguez was better known in southwest Florida as the founder of Florida Prep, a school that hosted several blue-chip basketball players during its five years of operation on five sites in four Florida cities. Wow now that some moving around huh? Oh I think that I failed to mention that Florida Prep was kicked out of the Florida High School Athletic Association, hmm wonder why? Now see if you can believe this one, Seems that in 2005 Rodriguez who was the principal at Florida Prep fired the coach by the name of Babcar Sy, not sure of the reasons why (improper conduct, sorry I couldn’t resist that one). |
