Football is here!

Football is here and we know little. We like what we are hearing regarding the starters. Holes left from last last year should be filled by athletes who can wear the Scarlet & Grey.

The only news from camp at this time we consider disappointing is that Skinner and Mitchum are missing from the Oline due to injuries, and that Steve Rehring.OG, is not in the shape expected. The last we have heard is Skinner and Mitchum will miss fall camp, be back during the season. Depth in the Oline is a very real concern. Two seniors are gone. Two players experienced in the program hurt. Again, we see reason to be concerned.

{mosimage} On the depth issue, we also are concerned in the defensive backfield. Russell is apparently back and all over the field, which is awesome news. Looking forward to seeing Coleman at safety, and as stated earlier, believe he will be fine. Jenkins and Washington at corner should play high caliber football. Depth- a problem. Amos, don't know about his health. The only others with experience are not starting. That should tell us all something. We will be watching to see where true freshman Eugene Clifford fits in. From what we have heard, he is the real deal, and through the nics and scrapes of a season we shall see. Last year Russell goes down, and so did the defense.

We do not expect the receivers to perform at last years level, but Christ, what do you want. The three that are gone are in the NFL, two in the first round. We may have more of a committee approach and that is OK. We expect to see our receivers make plays. Last year we tried to incorporate Ray Small into some plays without getting much. The coaches obviously saw something, as did Coach Ginn. We will watch this year hoping for a breakout year for Small. Don't really have any idea if we will see it, but are confident in the group as a whole.
