Page 5 of 5 Nobody has to be held accountable and the curse can take any kind of harsh words you may have to say about it. "It's that darn curse again!" If high expectations aren't met then you can always just lean back and blame it on the curse. It's rather simple and refreshing and it really lifts a lot of weight off everybody's shoulders. There doesn't have to be any more complex breakdowns of certain games trying to figure out how Virginia could have lost another big game or blown another comfortable lead in a game, you can just blame it on the curse. The curse justifies the losses so you don't have to search any longer. Just ask the Boston Red Sox fans. Heck, they were complaining about the "Curse of the Bambino" for 86 years and now they are the champions of the baseball world. They finally broke the curse this season in stunning fashion, so obviously believing in the curse got them somewhere. Why can't it get the Wahoo faithful through their painful times? So, Virginia fans, when your basketball or football team loses a big game or has another disappointing season, don't stress out about it. Don't sit at home crunching numbers or thinking about all the different scenarios that could've happened throughout the season. Just kick back and blame it on the "Curse of the Silverswords." It's so easy and doesn't take any effort at all. The University of Chaminade Honolulu certainly couldn't be more thankful for Virginia's early Christmas gift on that day, because of the enormous amount of attention it continues to bring to their university. During the 20th anniversary of the upset, current Silverswords Head Coach and Athletic Director Aaron Griess told the Honolulu Star-Bulletin, "It is amazing how it put Chaminade on the map. Recruiting-wise, it still helps 20 years later. The kids we call all know about Chaminade." Chaminade may be thankful for Virginia for the upset because it forever changed their University, but Virginia fans should be even more thankful for the Swords giving them a crutch to rely on for years to come.
