WR Adarius Bowman Makes Most of Second Chance Print E-mail

Most people in this world want a second chance at some point in their lives. Sometimes you get it, sometimes you don’t. That’s just the way the world works.

{mosimage}I was watching highlights of Adarius Bowman of Oklahoma State(pictured left) and I was amazed at what he’s done with his second chance. He's one of my favorite players to watch and he is an excellent example of what a person can do with a second chance in this world. He was dismissed from UNC in 2004 by John Bunting when he and two other teammates were cited for marijuana possession. "I always think about that," Bowman said. "Every time that does cross my mind I thank God for Coach Gundy for giving me that second chance and allowing me to grow and learn from my mistakes rather than repeating them."

Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy has been handsomely rewarded for bringing Bowman to Stillwater. In 2006, Bowman established himself as one of the most dynamic receivers in all of college football. He and quarterback Bobby Reid were one of the best quarterback-receiver duos in the country. Last year Bowman hauled in 60 catches for 1,181 yards, averaging an astounding 19.1 yards per catch! He finished 11th nationally and second in Big 12, averaging 90.85 yards per game. The Chattanooga, Tennessee native had a field day against the Kansas Jayhawk secondary, snagging 13 balls for 300 yards and four touchdowns. Those are video game numbers, folks! His dazzling display of 13 catches was good enough for second in Oklahoma State history. Wanna guess who that ties him with? That receiver would be the legendary Rashaun Woods, who is one of the best players I have ever seen in college football. Woods was only the eighth player in NCAA history to gain over 1,000 receiving yards during three seasons in a career. Woods has his name plastered all over the Oklahoma State record books. One of his more impressive records came when he hauled in seven touchdowns against SMU in 2003. Woods also set the record for most receiving yards in a single game(243) in that contest. Of course, that was until this season, when Bowman shredded the record with his 300-yard outburst against the Jayhawks! Either way, Rashaun Woods is a name that college football fans likely won't forget anytime soon. He didn't have any success at all in the NFL over the past few seasons, but recently signed with the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL in late July. Best of luck to him and his amazing set of hands.

Back to Adarius Bowman. Look for him and Bobby Reid to hook up early and often this college football season for the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Bowman actually has his own wesbite on the Oklahoma State athletics webiste. Check it out: http://www.bowman12.com/index.html. He won't win the Heisman Trophy, but Bowman will likely be a finalist for the Fred Biletnikoff Award, annually given to the top receiver in the nation. It will be tough to beat out DeSean Jackson of Cal, but it could get interesting. Look for Adarius Bowman and his dazzling display of size(6'4, 220 lbs.), hands, and electrifying speed in the open field to come to a college football stadium near you this fall!

One of the things I like about DeathRattle is fans from all over the place are here. I consider myself a fan, but had no clue re Bowman. Having now read about Bowman in Wade's article, I will have a reason to check the box scores on Sunday to see how Bowman did on Saturday. Thanks Wade.
