A four-star prospect at the cornerback position, Powell is a multi-talented prospect who should shore up the PSU secondary. With Justin King and Anthony Sciorroto already back there, the secondary appears to be a strength for Penn State this year. But the Nittany Lions also knew they had to look to the future and they raked in a pretty good group of secondary prospects in their 2007 class. One of them who looks to contribute early in 2007 will be Chaz Powell of Susquehannock High School, located in Glen Rock, Pennsylvania. {youtube}CYIgrXrZijM{/youtube} Powell had offers from some of the top Northeast schools like Maryland and Boston College as well as Georgia but chose Penn State in the end because of its proximity to home and for academic reasons. He is a good overall athlete with a high football IQ who could play either safety or corner, and he also may be a candidate to return kicks for the Nittany Lions since he was such a versatile player in high school, rushing for over 1,100 yards. Powell is built like a traditional Penn State defensive back in that he has great size at 6-foot-2 and the frame to add more weight (he's in the 185 range now), so he can get stronger as time goes on and become an effective player in Penn State's zone-heavy defensive schemes.
