{mosimage}The Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. Michigan Wolverines rivalry is going strong, as they just signed a 20-year contract extension through 2031.
Former Ohio State President and the new Ohio State President, E. Gordon Gee responded to floods of emails from concerned OSU fans about what they should on the day of the rivalry. Gee met with Big 10 University Presidents to discuss a conflict of interest he and many other fans have felt for years. When Gee was president before at Ohio State they still had ties in the college game. In an exclusive interview with DeathRattleSports, he revealed what's going on upstairs. "It was easy because I did not have to worry about who to to root for, Gee said. Everyone would root for a tie and most people would root for a tie and injuries. Ties are just as good as wins for me, just ask John Cooper. Something like a broken foot, dislocated collarbone or any injury that would heal but not until after the Ohio State game would suffice as good enough as far as injuries go." President Gee went on to discuss his meeting with the Presidents. "They all understood where I was coming from. In fact, they all told me they root for injuries for the Irish and Wolverines every week, which is comforting because I'm not that heartless." President Gee then met with Head Coach Jim Tressel, who reassured him that his decision to root for injuries ultimately had zero effect on the game itself. {mosimage} "He told me that while Mike Hart has been their feature back that they know they'll limp into the late season OSU-UM rivalry. Plus, they can tell what plays Michigan is about to run based on the scowls on Head Coach Lloyd Carrs face." Indeed, Gee was has been impressed by Tressel's laid back attitude. "Coop was laid back too, but he kept a running chart on Michigan injuries and analyzed it every day. I guess Tressel takes the poker face approach." Rest assured, over the next 20 years Buckeye fans are going to root for injuries, most of which are far more serious than President Gee hopes for. He wanted to warn OSU fans of a couple of things. "I'm not promoting fans rooting for injuries. But for this game, once a year, rooting for a twisted ankle, broken toe or even a good groin shot is ok."
