Opinion:

Looking at that list, there are many intriguing contenders. Last year's runner up, Darren McFadden, is projected as this year's 3rd place finisher. This may not be too unlikely, especially if Arkansas loses a few games and McFadden quietly rumbles towards huge numbers.

The leaders are WVU RB Steve Slaton and USC QB John David Booty. Slaton, who is electryifying, plays on a good n' fun offense and is primed for a huge year against some inferior Big East opponents. The game against Louisville last year, when Slaton checked himself out of the game, still sticks in my mind. The guy is great, but half the stadium would have played with a broken limb and it looked like he was being a wimp.

Certainly it's hard to judge an injury through the boob tube but it looked weak. This year, he will need to step up in key moments to win this award.

As far as Booty, I say no. Obviously he's good and will be considered, but there are too many question marks on USC's offense for me to think they will have another heisman winning quarterback.

UofL QB Brian Brohm is a good choice. As long as his health is ok, you have to believe he'll put up big numbers. Will a Big East guy win it this year? Ray Rice and Pat White give the Big East 2 more serious contenders.

Hawaii QB Colt Brennan gives the media that guy they can talk about obsessively, claiming players at smaller schools do not get a fair shake at the heisman. duh. Expect Brennan to throw for 20,000 yards, 112 tds and finish 4th in the heisman balloting. Apparently, they'll say, most of his passing yards came when the outcome was decided.

Guys that are way too high....on life and in heisman rankings:

UF QB Tim Tebow- Based on what has been earned, Tebow should not be on the list. Based on potential, it's hard for me to argue either way. His high school highlights are great, but I want to see him a full year under center before calling him top 6 heisman guy, which is where the betting line has him. Maybe it will take me a couple games to change my mind. Personally, I hope not.

Penn State QB Anthony Morelli- Bwhahahahahahahaha! Anthony Morelli.....Bwhahahahahahhahaha! No disrespect, but c'mon. If Anthony Morelli wins the heisman I will quit everything I am doing, move to Wyoming and start a cult, worshiping all that Anthony Morelli has done for humanity. Not that I would not want to do that anyway. Anthony Morelli is a suckers bet for some PSU chump.
